Not wrecking the electron is why I said to use software. And while I realise that you don't HAVE to use an emulator, surely you want the biggest screen space possible? I don't think the Electron can run 1920x1080 monitors, can it?

Even an emulator is going to be limited to the max resolution of the Electron which IIRC was was 640x256 in glorious monochrome.

Since any software is going to be actually tested on the Electron anyway, might was well hook up the old analogue CRT TVand cassette tape recorder and start coding in teletext mode @ 40x25 characters

Sorry, I misunderstood you.
Anyway, it's still just a PC running a C64 emulator, & you can do that for free on your current machine.
Why not give it a try ?
