Daily Mail link so some of you can act like children - http://www.dailymail.co.uk/wires/af...d-ancient-Assyrian-city-Nimrud-Iraq-says.html

This could easily happen at sites all over the Middle East.
Imagine them going into the Cairo Museum and swinging their sledgehammers :(

And for the grown ups -

Well it speaks volumes if you cannot look at history and tell the difference between previous culture and now. End of.

Nothing surprises with me with IS. They're all completely evil and twisted. The sooner they're all dead and gone the better.

Yep totally agree. Hopefully they'll just have an internal disagreement and murder each other and save everyone else the hassle. The good news is Muslims have form on this so it's quite likely.

/shrug, I tend to think that crucifying people, burning them alive and beheading them and putting the video on ********, imposing the hell of Sharia law etc is worse than smashing up some ruins.

Well since I didn't mention how bad it is on the 'Worse Scale' then your post is void.

We are who we are because of where we came from. Art in all it's forms is essential to understanding the past. Destroying ancient art in museums and elsewhere is no different to the Nazi's burning books. It's just an attempt to re-write history in order to control future populations. It's what the crazies do in order to attempt to create the evil sick twisted dystopia which they strive for. Your apathy on this matter is an enabler that helps them to succeed.

Nobody gave an indication this was their worse crime and they have done worse. But it is poor logic to ignore one violation because of a great evil that has been committed.

That's a bit heavy but I suppose true.

Useless post.

Just offering some perspective, yes it's a shame that these historical monuments are gone for ever but now the Islamic State is part of Iraq's history. Hopefully they won't be around for very long and afterwards the people of Iraq will have a reminder of their barbarity.
