My question is could i overclock this CPU more? its got a pretty big cooler on it and i know it can take the heat as it runs at 45c on load. Ive been through the bios and there are manual OC settings and automatic 2x, 4x, 6x, 10x. Atm its on 10x so its up from 2.0ghz to 2.2ghz, but im wondering if i can take it up more.. Im struggling to run games such as assasins creed getting the same framerate on lowest graphics settings as i am on maxed out graphics settings.

Im upgrading to a Phenom BE build with a 5850 within the next 3 months and i was hoping to see if this had any life left in it b4 it hits the bin.

Thanks for any help =)

From what I remember of my Athlon 64, they generally weren't amazing overclockers. You might get an extra 15-25% out of it with decent cooling (or maybe even stock) but if you're upgrading in a few months anyway it's not really worth the effort to get it stable at a slightly higher speed tbh. Even if you do manage to get an extra 400MHz out of it I doubt you'll see much of a frame rate increase.

You should be able to squeeze 400MHz I'd have thought but as above, I wouldn't expect a dramatic increase in FPS. Can you post screenies of the CPU, Memory and SPD tabs from CPUZ so we can see what settings you're running at the minute?

Reduce your HT Link from 5x to 4x

That will open up more of a chance at overclocking for you.

Also what are you options for RAM? You need to run it on a divider, reduce it down to DDR333(166mhz)

Remember, Run a Prime95 stress test to make sure the system is stable and keep an eye on temperatures. Give it 30 minutes stressing.

When you feel you've reached its max clock with reasonable temperatures. Stress it for longer, A good half day.
