And another board - No overclocking, server stability.

Taking the plunge and adding on a server upgrade. Board needs Core2 Duo/Quad support and absolute rock solid stability.

Will never be overclocked, just needs to be stable for 24/7/365. RAID-5 with 6 or more SATA-II ports is a big bonus.

I'd say either the Asus P5E-WS PRO, P5E3-WS PRO or P5E64-WS, depending on slot/memory needs!

Both of the Asus Maximus boards would probably be fine aswell, the "gaming" branding is irrelevant.

Sorry, should have been more specific...

It's running a Core2 E2160 CPU, 4Gigs of DDR2 RAM (OCZ 4GB 2x2Gb PC2-6400), 8400GS Video Card.

Will be running 1x320Gb SATA Boot drive and 4x 750Gb Spinpoint SATA drives (in RAID 5 which I'd like done on the board itself without forking out for a hardware card).

Needs to be standard ATX or smaller footprint.

Price ideally under £80 excluding VAT

4 of the ports on the DP35DPM are on the ICH9R southbridge (supporting RAID), the other 2 are on a third party controller.

Oh! I see.

Well, I suppose this is the best bet.

Or possibly this,

Though I believe in this instance, the 6 SATA ports are shared between 2 controllers, so it may not be as flexible.

In fact, I think this may be the case on the Asus too, if you want prolific and stable RAID but don't wish to shell out for a more expensive motherboard you might struggle to find something that ticks every box. One of the Foxconn P35s perhaps?

*sigh*, beat me to it again!!!

Well, most of the P35 boards would suit you then, overclocking or not, it's a very stable, cool running chipset, can't see how you'd go wrong, just check for 6 sata ports and DDR2 support!

Asus P5K Pro Intel P35 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard looks good as per your link. SATA's are off the same chipset meaning I could expand to 6x drives in future, can't be a bad thing ;)

About a year ago, recommendation was for Intel boards for 24/7 servers, is the Asus as solid? (ie, am I gaining anything for paying £12 more for the Asus). Is the Asus ?more? stable??
