And as he wondered into motors...

Not keen on the Golf R32, nice enough car but not what I'm looking for really, the IS300 is too much an executive saloon as well i think, again, nice car, I know people who have them but not quite what I'm looking for.

So...

330Ci/Cd
S2000
Exige

any other suggestions, I was hoping to waste 2 or 3 weekends test driving all the possibilities! :)

stop being a wuss and learn to drive a powerful car.

from your budget and your wants, your looking at M3 / boxster / s2k / z4 elise/exige tbh.

i dont know why you are considering the 330 (i or d) when you can afford a M3. you want something fun, so get something fun :]

I drove a new 330Cd at the end of last year, damn it's a good car! Lots of money though!

You sound like the perfect candidate for a 330Ci - used example start at just £10,000 and go all the way up to £30,000 depending on age, mileage and specification.

It's just like the 330Cd you love, but more affordable.

Personally I see little value in an m3 if you have to think about whether you really want one over a 330Ci - the M3 is for a certain type of driver - if you are that driver the increased running costs are well worth it, but if you are not, then a 330Ci will be cheaper to run, still fast, newer, etc.

A 330Ci will do 155mph and 0-60 in 5.9 seconds. It is not, by any stretch of the imagination, a slow car. It is more than sufficient even for some of the hereos on here who think nothing but a Ferrari will do :p

Youve gotta decide whether you want something 2 seater Boxster size or bigger 330 BMW size.

If it was me, id be buying a Boxster S if i could, or a Z4, or somthing like that, after testdriving them all for hours on end.

The 330 isn't that big a car though. It's 15cm longer than the boxster, but actually 4cm narrower - not much for an extra 3 seats and a boot.

Were you after a 2 seater or more of a "family car", from your post above, highlighting the S2000, exige i guess you want a 2 seater? But I would say get an M3 if you can afford it.

Or maybe...an Evo IX or new Scooby?

Has to be the 330Ci without a doubt.. (although I just hate 2 seaters, would never buy a S2000 or elise but thats just personal preference.)

He wants a sports car though, something fun to drive, not some family wagon

Since when is a 2 door coupe a family wagon? It's a rubbish family wagon, you can't get a pushchair in the boot and it's only got 2 doors.

It's also great fun to drive.

You know what I mean, a proper focused drivers car.

Actually, no, I don't - people keep refering to cars like the 330Ci as 'family cars' and suchlike whereas something like a Prelude or whatever is a cool sporty car - errr both are performance Coupes? Whats the difference? What makes a 330Ci with 231bhp, 0-60 in under 6 seconds and a 155mph top speed a boring family car yet any other Coupe is cool, sporty, and fun?

In my opinion a 330 can be no where near an Elise/Exige/S2000 for driving experience and feeling special everytime you drive.
