And people wonder why adblockers exist....

Ive noticed that the number of ads on youtube seems to have skyrocketed of late.

Used to be i could go days without a single ad now its every 10 minutes.

Needless to say the more ads appear the more inclined i'm becoming to blocking them.
Youtube Vanced has made Youtube usable again on Android. Be careful to get the official app though and not one of the many scams/fakes.

I tend to use adblockplus with ublock origin.

I don't receive any adverts on sites that I don't allow. Though now they started to block people reading sites if we're using any adblock'er. Luckily journalism is that bad they are just copy/pasting so I go to another news site that isn't filled with adverts.

The local websites are the worse. They overload their pages with adverts. There seems to be little appreciation for the reader of the site and how much it is impacting on the user experience.

Advertising does seem to be at its worst, like another poster in this chain I've use pi-hole for ever, but recently due to internal network changes I ran with it off. It was the first thing I turned back on as soon as I could. Can't believe how bad the internet is for advertising these days.

Staffordshire Newsletter + Express & Star are crammed with ads as well. Both my work's PC and home PC have i7 processors, but if I try to open a news site on the work's PC, it makes the i7 feel more like a Celeron!

Any idea how to get rid of modal overlays? This is where the background darkens (or lightens on dark colour schemes) and a pop-up appears with a message. Being visually impaired, I don't always see a close button, or maybe it doesn't have a close button because its placement is outside of my screen resolution. The OP mentioned them a few times in his post. uBlock will get rid of some of them, but not all.

The overlays I want to get rid of are:

- login with Facebook / Twitter / Pinterest etc
- please take this survey
- please subscribe
- before you go...
