And the Cypress shader count is...

what a monster....

and I m sturggling here, did they say twice ? the performances of a HD4870 :eek:last time they said that it was a lot faster

when the HD4870 they said it will rivial the 9800GTX+ not the bloody GTX260

ATI have a habbit of miss judging or purposefully miss advertising gains. The problem is this time there is also a lot of hype surrounding them, so there statement of...what was it 60% gains? may be more accurate.

Nice to hear but won't hang my hat on it yet if true then wow just wow they are going to be seriously speedy cards, but it's charlie so salt pot to hand for now.

Not rival, the word is compete. I'll repeat myself here by saying when they say it will 'compete' with a product, that is what it is priced against, not what it performs against. It's too difficult to say 'well we think this card is as fast so this is what it competes against', price is much easier to quantify and hence is the benchmark there.

well, its just a wait a see job again, but last time AMD said something, it was qute a bit faster than they thought it would be and everyone was shocked inculding Nvida as they could not counter it I was shocked

This guy has some issues and its really starting to tire me.

Perhaps he put his 8800gtx in upside down or something when he failed graduation and cant get over it.

If nvidia is as dead as he is making out then i don't see how they could have survived this long as a business.

I like competition, it keeps the gfx card market healthy, if one side is down and out, then the competitor prices will not budge at the same rate.

I have no doubt these cards will be great, but theres no point posting an article without some solid proof or source. Like Yamahahahahaha said 'Believe it when I see it. '

Well ATI survived six months without any competitive high-end products, after Nividia launched the 8800 GTX, and I'm sure Nvidia's situation won't be as bad as ATI's.

I don't think Charlie is suggesting Nvidia is going disappear (I mean they returned to profitability last quarter); just that they're going to experience some short term financial pain.

I think Charlie comes across as much more reasonable when you read his forum posts, as opposed to his articles, which almost seem designed to rile up Nvidia supporters.

So as things stand,

The low end 5850 should beat the 285 and make another shamfull round of regurgitated 8800's look like a pitiful attempt to take money from the i'll informed. :o  A 5850 will more than likely beat a pair of them with a big stick.

The 5870 is likely to be as fast as crossfire 4890's / SLI 285's.

The 5870x2 should offer around the performance of a pair of GTX295's

It looks to me that ATI are planning on beating the whole of Nvidia SLI range with one card for less money, offering Nvidia's single card line up redundancy.

I hope its true and ATI beat nvidia to within a inch of existence, they have had this coming IMO.

No one wants a manopoly on anything if they can avoid it, look at Royal Mail. Manopolys = high prices and slack advancement.

Royal mail imo is a bad example, 30p to send my mail around the world doesn't seem a lot to me! :D

I'd quite like to get myself a joystick and a copy of MS Flight Sim X ...I've been eyeing it up for some time now, I suspect that playing that with every detail setting set to maximum would push my faithful old 8800GT over the edge, I could be wrong though, I haven't tried it yet.
Most agree FSX relies more heavily on a fast CPU rather than outright GPU performance, also reading the forums it seems there's quite a few favour Nvidia over ATI.

That said, I'll be upgrading my 8800 Ultra to either of the top ATI cards... soon I hope, not too bothered about their pricing (it will be what it'll be - just hope UK doesn't hike prices up too much over US prices) - I'd much rather it worked well (kicks some butt) and importantly has good drivers from the start.

In all honesty, I'd like the next generation of ATi and Nvidia cards to be matched pretty much like how they were with the R700 and GT200 series; it's the best case scenario for us consumers!
