Andor (Star Wars)

Rewatched S1 last week and really enjoyed it again. I like that it’s not all about crazy cgi, what toys they can spin off of it etc. it’s just a decent story.

I've been rewatching it in German this week, which loses a little, but it's still great.

Sure there was some cracks in the story , you think light sabers and hyperspace is plausible but lack of facial recognition isn’t , it’s no big deal for me personally.

Star Wars isn't really Sci-fi, and it's certainly not speculative fiction - it's space fantasy. The weird blend of simplistic and high technology, where you have full artificial intelligence and hyperspace but you can fix it with a couple of spanners and some wires, displays are low res and flickery, and there's no facial recognition tech; the space wizards with laser swords; and the nonsensical ecologies with giant megafauna space worms living in asteroids, are all just how it works in the Star Wars universe. Criticising it for that is like criticising Game of Thrones for having dragons, Dracula for having vampires, or Lord of the Rings for having elves. It might be against your personal preferences - and fair enough if it is - but its worthless as criticism of it as a story.

Excellent point. I dont really get the 'i couldnt suspend disbelief therefore its ****' argument with obvious fiction. Its bombastic, silly and over the top. And thats a huge part of the fun. If its not for you fair enough. Personally i cant get enough space opera escapism.
