Bit confused here guys...

I don't understand why some people have two separate APN's? ie. one for Internet and one for MMS... In the android menu you have to select one for it to be active, right? so surely you need MMS and Internet in the same APN? like here http://www.talkmobile.co.uk/settings/settingsandroid2.html

Otherwise, do you have to switch the MMS APN on when you send a picture message, then switch back to the Internet APN to use mobile data???

What are you talking about? Where does it say set them on different APN's?

Usually there's 2 APN's on the SIM, one for pay monthly and one for payg.

Non-technical network explanation:

The MMS "box" on the network doesn't have to be the same "box" as the one that standard data flows through. It will be down to the network design if they have the same address.

The phone knows which APN to use for MMS because you told it so - if the primary doesn't have the ability to collect MMSs then it knows to use a different APN (in most phones it will just try them sequentially in order looking for one that has MMS fields). It's completely automatic, you don't need to touch a thing.

The reasons for splitting are pretty technical and boring so I'm going to miss them out :)

OK, so the circle at the side of the APN isn't saying it's active, more that it's the default APN?
