Android Contact Picture Sync?

A long time ago on my S2 I use to have all my contacts with nice pretty pictures in contacts and the same pretty pictures would show up on whatever messaging app I used (Handcent usually). The pictures came from Facebook.

At some point when using my S2 all these pictures disappeared and I just never bothered looking into it. I've since got an S3 which is doing the same thing. I have about 3 or 4 contacts with pictures (but I'm sure these are from Gmail accounts and not Facebook) out of my 150~ contacts.

I've got the FB app installed, I've told it to sync contacts, the contacts are linked correctly and the email address used for FB is set to sync in settings.

Yet no pretty pictures appear :(

Any ideas?

Google and Facebook fell out, then FB contact pictures were removed from the operating system.

It's annoying but you can get apps to work around it like haxsync from the Play store if it is important to you.

I had this a while back and when I finally got round to looking I'd disabled "Facebook for HTC Sense" in Titanium Backup. Obviously this isn't your problem.

If you get no joy with the FB sync you could try an app like SyncMyPix.

I had this problem with my S3. Here is the solution:

1) Open facebook app
2) Go to friends list
3) scroll up and down and wait till all the photos load
4) Photos should now appear as contact photos in Android*

*I had a couple that still didn't work

That's done about 60% which is good enough, although none of them are appearing in Handcent, it just gives everyone a default anon picture, apart from 1 of my friends who has a picture from his Gmail account is being displayed?

Haxsync is your only solution really. Things like Syncmypix will work, but they'll eventually become low res once they've been synced to Google Contacts. Haxsync acts as an additional account in settings, which pulls high res photos from facebook and takes priority over G+.

I thought the low res problem is sorted in JB?

Anyone with JB confirm?

JB supports high res contact pictures yes, but the problem is that Google Contacts syncs them at a lower res still (96 x 96 I think), shocking really. So you HAVE to use one of these apps to get a nicer higher res contact picture until Google fixes or fires their Gmail contacts department.

I've been using an app called "SyncMyPix" for this, seems to work pretty well.

Last time I checked, syncmypix just assigns a photo to a contact. Once your contacts get resynced to Google Contacts, they'll return to the 96x96 res. Unless you have syncmypix to assign pictures every day..

I can't say I've paid too much attention to the resolution of the pictures to be honest. I just wanted to get an app which would make up for the lack of picture syncing in ICS.
