Anyone know any good comparison sites for android phones? Found a couple but they aren't really up to date.

Currently have a G1, and really want something faster, with a better camera, a battery that doesn't need charging every 12 hours, slide out keyboard, and something metal as apposed to the cheap plastic I am used too.

Any ideas? As seems to be a new android handset out every month and want to make sure I get something I wont be fed up of in 6 months like I was with the G1 :P

The spec order seems to be

Desire
N1
Legend/Droid

Those 4 are the top 4 just now and i wouldn't really consider anything else :)

Wait till you actually use one. It's probably the worst Android phone I have ever used. And uncomfortable to hold too.

Not from all the reviews i have read it isn't. Ill find out soon enough.

Cnet Quote.

At 4.7 inches long by 2.5 inches wide by 0.5 inch deep, the X10 is only slightly larger than the iPhone, and you hear no one complaining about that device's size. The X10 is lighter than you might think (4.8 ounces) though we enjoyed its sold feel. Its face is purposely curved; Sony Ericsson does this so the device matches the natural curve of your hand. We understand nay skepticism, but it's only the slightest bit gimmicky. Indeed, the X10 fits comfortably in the hand, but it wasn't a huge leap over other handsets. On the other hand, the curved back means that when it's resting on a flat surface, the X10 wobbles if you try to tap at the screen.

What about the milestone? Not a contender?

Why don't you root your G1 and put a Legend rom on. I only charge mine once a day.

Have rooted it, but one of the JF Roms on there ages ago but now its been discontinued, and so close to an upgrade I couldnt be nothered. Much prefer to get something new and a bit sturdier anyways

That's a bit of a sweeping statment isn't it? Have you not seen any of the latest X10 videos.

I'm just going by what i've read ;)

Oh and Milestone is the Droid, The Droid is the Milestone.

(I should have said the Milestone since the European release is indeed the Milestone :))

The Desire IS the Nexus One, why do people not get this? Subtle differences down to taste, the biggest being Sense UI on the Desire, its all personal preference :) Other than that, I agree with the above :)

The Milestone is the GSM version of the Droid :) Not as much effort is going into hacking it because the GSM version is different from the CDMA Droid and the numbers of owners are lower, so if you were looking at custom ROM's for it there aren't many possibilities :(

If you're looking for good support for roots and custom ROM's go for the Nexus One over the Desire. Desire has Sense UI on top of the same hardware so will get new versions of Android slower (Case in point: the Hero)

If you weren't looking to root there's not much to split the Desire and Nexus, it all comes down to taste - Which do you think looks better? Do you like the Sense UI? etc etc

X10 is the big outsider. Specs to match the Desire/Nexus (SE has a bigger screen but its LCD on AMOLED like the HTC pair) but ships with a custom skinned 1.6 build. Fail. SE have promised to bump it to 2.1 (The version of Android the Nexus and Desire run) as soon as possible, but until they do I wouldn't even consider it :)

Disclaimer: Nexus One owner :D :P (Who has tried the Desire ROM)

The Desire isn't the Nexus One. The Nexus one has 2 microphones and the Desire has one (for background cancellation). The Nexus One also has text to speech on every text field and i don't believe the Desire has it? I could be wrong.

People dont "get this" because its not true!

The Desire is very similar to the Nexus One in many ways, but saying its the same phone is completely wrong. (sense UI, different physical design, noise cancellation, optical mouse thingy, hardware buttons)

The key hardware specifications are the same. Sense UI is the only thing you'll notice in day to day use that's truly different, hence it was the only thing I pointed out. There is nothing new hardware-wise in the Desire, physical buttons replace touch buttons, optical trackpad replaces trackball. In fact the Desire has lost hardware in the shape of the 2nd mic relative to the Nexus if we're being picky. The textures and materials used on the phone are the same....

My original, badly worded point still stands though, the phones are equals, one is not better than the other hardware-wise in any meaningful way. The only major difference is the software, and if you're buying Android not to tinker with the OS then you're buying the wrong phone imo :p
