So what are my options here?

I think I want the Hero, even though at the moment I won't be able to root it with the Orange rom. Still a damn good phone though right?

So, I already have a 2GB MSD card I can use in the phone. I take it sat nav software installs in the main memory (app) and the maps to the SD card?

I have seen Co-Pilot, but that only seems to come on an SD card. Where as for Windows Mobile you can just download the app and install on your own card. Can that not be done on Android?

Any other satnav software out there at the moment that I haven't seen? I know TomTom is coming, but that's gonna be around $100, where as co-pilot for WM is £25!

EDIT: Also, co-pilot comes on a 2GB card and the maps (UK & IE) seem to be around 400mb. So I would be able to use the remaining space for whatever I want right? Would it be possible to transfer the co-pilot data to a larger card?

You get co-pilot from android market on the phone, and you can download the maps over wifi. It installs to internal memory and puts the maps on the sdcard. It costs 26.99 with one map (all of UK & Ireland is one map) that you choose when you buy it.

Also just like every app on android you have a 24 hour refund period, no questions asked. Co-pilot is the only comercial high quality one on android at the moment.. c'mon tom tom!

That is excellent! Because I really want a large memory card for pics/music etc.

Also the price isn't too bad at all! I have a feeling TT will be quite expensive.

I like that refund thing too, I never knew that before!

P.S. Has flashrec stopped working now then? Otherwise why can't you root the orange rom?

Well, it seems from what I have read that the new firmware somehow prevents rooting? I've love it to not be true, but I can't find any info really.

Also, I'd love to know if the phone is coming with the latest Orange firware pre-installed. I would love it not to, but it's preventing me from hitting that buy button right now....

I don't know if I am reading you correctly but are you going to have 2 SDcards that you swap, one for music etc and one for maps? Why don't you just buy an 8GB Class 6 card and have your music and maps etc on that or even a 16GB card. Its gonna be a PITA to keep changing your sdcard.

No that's what I was saying, I didn't want that. I didn't know you could get co-pilot from the marketplace and just download the maps to your own card.

I could only see it available for purchase on an SD card, which is what I didn't really want.

I have ordered the Hero and it will be here tomorrow, so I shall be downloading Co-Pilot tomorrow and installing it on my exsisting card. :)

Let me know how you get on with that pls. My connection is so dire that I dare not dwnload until i have purchased a router and gone wireless.

I downloaded copilot from app store and downloaded UK map over my home wifi straight onto the SD card.
Very impressed so far.
Tomtom have become a little too sure of themselves, missed the mobile market by a mile!
