Android Non-GPS Route tracking?

Hi there,

Google does a pretty good job working out where I am without GPS, yet I can't find an application that plots my location every few minutes without needing a GPS signal.

I don't really want my phone signal to be zapped by leaving the GPS signal on, hence looking at GSM based location.

Anyone got any suggestions?

GSM location tracking is not accurate and should not be relied on for anything critical. It can be as bad as accuracy down to 1KM to give you a frame of reference and should you only have 2 towers in proximity, it will refuse to work.

Google cheats by sniffing wifi router MAC addresses and then looking them up on Skyhook / their own database and plotting your position that way assuming you have this enabled in positioning (the option is called "Use wireless networks" under positioning).
