As title really I've never had android always been apple, but I feel like I would like to try android out but having no experience with them I worry I may make a mistake by buying one due to hearing that u don't get as good apps or as many on the android store is this true? And obviously knowing where I stand with apple and android being new and unknown territory.
I'm looking at either a nexus 7 (not sure to get 16 or 32gb any suggestions?)
Or the iPad mini retina would only get the 16gb (due to cost)

So I suppose what I'm asking is what are the benefits of android over iOS and the downsides?

Any help would be much appreciated.

obvious question is do you have an Iphone/ipod or any devices that use the apple app store current and will you be using those apps on the tablet?

if you do and you use a Lot of paid for apps, i would stay with apple provided you can install the apps onto multiple devices, as it may save paying for or looking for equivalent apps again.

As the many people that have been in the same boat as you have asked. I've always recommended the nexus 7 on the fact it's not locked down like the ipad (at least not before being jailbroken).

With it being a direct Google nexus device it will also be updated to the latest andrioid versions much quicker than other tablets too.

However if you are reasonably tech savvy I would take a look at cyanogen mod. It isn't for everyone as you are loading custom roms onto the device but it does add extra customizability.

The nexus 7 also has the benefit it costs much less, so more money in your pocket to either get the 32gb or enjoy it some other way.

I do have a iPhone 4S but looking at possibly going android on my phone also I I get on with it.i don't really have many paid for apps and certainly non I'm bothered about losing.

Thankyou regarding the advice on tablet as said if I go android I will be going to a nexus 7 2013 model not sure if I need to go upto a 32gb or just stick with the 16gb?

My major worry is what is android like to use? Does it have a distinct lack of apps that are good? It's okay apple saying they have a million thousand apps but it's only good apps that count in the tally I care about! So in the android market place it may have less apps but are they mostly the important good apps? Do u still have to wait forever to he the good apps? Are there many virus apps and so issues with android? Is a anti virus measure a must? Any tips tricks? I'm just basically asking for some info about android and the differences to apple

Apps are certainly better nowadays on Android. Apple still has a slight edge i'd say but there are a lot more "free" apps that will give you the sam functionality that an apple app does. Google nav for example. a lot of devs are making apps/games for ios and android nowadays. I use android (n5) as my phone own an ipad and an ipod touch. To be honest i barely use the ipad nowadays and will pick up an android tablet soon.

Have a browse through the play store and see if the apps meet your needs.

I've been using Android for a few weeks and the whole ecosystem feels very open and resources are excellent. I rooted my old HTC Wildfire quite easily and installed Cyanogenmod's CM7 Mini version of Android and it has made this old phone's performance quite respectable now. The Android operating system-user culture feels quite mature and I don't think you'll miss much not using Apple...you should definitely feel more freedom to explore internally the system itself if that might be your wish in the future.

You could mention here some specific Apple apps you require an Android equivalent of and someone here that knows could give you an example or tell you there isn't a good equivalent.
