Sister was out last night and for some reason best known to her group of friend they passed someones phone around playing "guess the pattern unlock".

You can all see where this is going, the phone is locked, he has no gmail account to sign in and unlock the phone.

The guy is absolutely gutted as has been building his own house and photos are on the phone. Does anyone know of a way to get in without a gmail account?

I have been thinking about it and can't for the life of me see a way around a hard reset, any ideas OCUK?

I thought the only way was using a gmail account...

Can he not still USB the images off the phone? Which phone is this, I gather one without an SD card?

Also who uses an Android phone without a gmail account = No Android Market?

I know I know, I cant believe it myself, I dont think he can usb the images off and you have to unlock the phone to access it via the pc, at least you do with my phone. Bizarre.

They must have done it quite a few times. My phone will lock for x amount of time if the wrong code is entered about 5 times. If you put it in wrong again, it gets longer each time.

I wonder if he can access the USB when its in recovery mode?

Also - although it may seem dumb not having a Gmail accountfor an Android phone, the blame lies entirely with the fuds that locked it in the first place when it wasn't their phone to touch.

Access recovery and see if you can mount USB drive.

If ADB works then you should be able to install a custom recovery which allows you to do it.

Mentioning what the phone is would actually help as there are thousands of android phones.

Odin should let you change recovery without losing data.

Once you have installed Clockworkmod recovery you can mount the drive and retrieve files.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1837605 <-- Not the correct file but it should be somewhere.

I'm hoping once the phone is locked that Samsung haven't built in security preventing you from doing this.

edit:

Go to the GS2 forum and someone should point you towards the correct file and confirm as to whether it would do a wipe (it shouldn't from my experiences with the original GS).

What passes for entertainment these days astounds me. Flashing CWM doesn't wipe the device from all the times I did it for what it's worth. Playing with this will likely invalidate the warranty if you flash anything custom on it like a bootloader but you can re-flash it to stock after all this is done to cover it up if the owner wants.

Might want to a: get him using email and b: using dropbox (it even has a built in "backup my photos" option)
