I'm quite a seasoned Android user but I'm wondering what the best way of connecting to my work wireless network would be.

I have permission from out IT to use our wireless as the Orange network is abysmal where I am based. I have all the details needed to connect to it in front of me, its WEP secured with 128bit key but its also running through a proxy to get out to the web.

What would be the best way to specify a proxy address?

I'm on a rooted Optimus 2x running CM 7.1 if it helps.

With you running modded Firmware this is nice and easy, get the proxydroid app from the market place and it will do everything you want.

You can bond the proxy settings to individual wireless access points it also has support for proxies that require authentication via AD accounts.

I use at work its its great as its only uses the proxy once I'm at work and when at home its just goes straight out to the t'internet.

Any apps available to allow proxy settings for a stock rom?

Tried a few apps off the market but none have worked so far.

Motorola Atrix on 2.2

Az you deserve some internets fella because that worked like a charm.!

And carlos I dont think so mate, it seems that you need root access to determine proxy addresses.

I think this is one area where things could be massively improved.

Cheers Mate

Its been a 'driod issue for yonks that they dont support Proxies and if they do there none authenticating ones.

Really hammering the business use potential of Android, as Windows Mobile and iPhone do this out of the box and BB has its own enterprise management stuff.

Apparently its supposed to be a standard feature of 3 upwards.

As for non custom rom phones, it will work fine as long as you have rooted your handset as I think it need root access to modify the routing table on the fly.
