After years of android, I'm thinking about getting an iphone. How much of a ball ache will it be to copy everything over (if it can even be done) and transfer number? I'm guessing the number would just involve moving the sim card and letting my provider (Tesco mobile) know?
It would probably be an iphone 14 if that makes any difference. I'm a complete noob at this stuff.

If phone unlocked, no need to notify Tesco.

Some things may be already backed up on the cloud like photos and contacts if using Google.

Do you use a micro SD card in your android?

It's pretty easy these days, just follow this:

You don't need to tell Tesco anything.

Micro SD and unlocked phone

In terms of files and photos, using a USB-C to lightning cable makes the whole process seamless. When first setting up the iphone, you’re given the option to transfer

I did this 2 years ago, was very easy. The only difficulty was whatsapp I couldnt keep my chat history but i think thats better now?

Did the transfer to my new phone last night, worked seemlessly using the move to ios app. Now just have to get used to the Apple way of doing things.

Takes a bit that.. I wouldn't go back now I think, though if im honest the main reason is face id, having my phone on a magnetic stand on the desk and not having to worry about unlocking is really handy for me.

Well, so far loving the iphone, huge step up from my old Mototola. Unfortunately I can already feel myself getting sucked in as I keep looking at Airpods now.

I'd probably be less "dedicated" to Apple if the Android ecosystem was better, both in terms of seamless connectivity and the quality of the accessories like the watch and AirPods. Also helps that my work laptop is a MacBook.

Oh and Android are much bigger offenders in terms of privacy.

The best analogy I can give as someone who has used Android for many years (even tried going back few times but short lived) is that iOS and the ecosystem just works with zero to minimal effort. Got an iPhone and airpods? Great connectivity. Bought an iPad? Airpods will work flawlessly between both devices and handover is a breeze too. Got a macbook? Again airpods will connect instantly and allow you to easily move between all devices. Take calls and receive messages on your macbook. Received a 2fa code from an sms on your iPhone that you need to enter on your iPad? Just copy on phone and paste in iPad box, it'll automatically paste it.

Latest addition has been an Apple TV and the integration just extends. Being able to use my AirPod Pros on all these devices seamlessly is a blessing.

It just works.

Tried to switch back to Android but the disjointed OS is too frustrating. There are many things I still prefer on Android but the compromise with iOS is liveable with.

It's exactly that. I have no doubt that Android do certain things better, Siri, for example, is hot garbage, but the quality and eco system integration is hard to beat.

Their hardware efforts are also noteworthy. I'd prefer Linux or Windows but there is little to no competition in that space - even when the ARM chips arrive, it'll be relatively disjointed.

The benefit you describe is exactly why I'd never go back to Apple. Want headphones, can only connect apple headphones, want a charge can only use an apple charger. Etc etc, funnily enough that ecosystem is massively over price. What a coincidence.

I must not be with the times then, many years ago, you couldn't Bluetooth anything from an IPhone, they were locked down tighter than a ducks butthole. Couldn't even share files via Bluetooth

Not sure where you've researched but this is completely wrong.

I also have Sony WH-1000XM5 over ears which offer multi point connect and allow seamless connection over multiple apple devices.

My Macbook Air, iPad Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, Apple AirPod Pros 2 & Apple Watch Ultra all use a usb-c connector for charging, the only thing I need a lightning charger for is my Apple TV remote but even the newer ATV have usb-c now.

So I’m going to be that person. Having been life long Android user, custom roms during the 2010’s unlocked Nexus Moto, HTC and Samsung series I eventually grew tired of Android and got an MB Pro for video editing for maxed out RAM.

BUT in order to take advantage of Apple ecosystem it became clear I would need to switch from using Chrome Password to Apple inbuilt and Microsoft 2FA to Apple. Both were a huge time sink that I did over a period of weeks. Then all the apps and such. Proper ball ache but worth it as Face ID is amazingly good, far far better than fingerprint for ease of use. I now use Safari.

I also use my IPhone 15 Pro Max with WH-1000XM5 as daily driver for train commute and nap times. Zero issue, no different than Android.

The only thing I’m aware of is quality, something about Apple bit rate support it not as high as Android so if you’re a hi-fi nerd using Tidal AND can actually notice the difference then I do believe it will be an issue.

I’m an audiophile but the compromise is worth it, that’s not to say the audio quality is bad it’s actually still really great.
