Android to WP, will I regret it?

I take a lot of photos with my phone, Galaxy Note1 (16Gb) so the camera is important to me. I'm on the official CyanogenMod ROM and the Camera Ap is slow and buggy as anything. I'm also out of memory, somehow, so my Aps aren't updating anymore.

I'm considering an inexpensive upgrade and the Nokia 925 and 1020 are available at quite good discounts at the moment. I'm checking my Ap compatibility now but wondered whether anyone had made the switch and their experiences?
My main Aps are:
Google Suite - Gmail, Youtube, Calendar, Maps, G+, Drive etc
Dropbox
Evernote
TuneIn Radio
Beyond Pod
Sonos
Spotify
Flipboard
LastPass
Skype
Viber
Whatsapp
Twitter
Facebook

Cheers!

Some people seem to enjoy Windows phone others seem to hate it. I guess there's only one way to find out! Let us know how you get on.

Google you are pretty stuffed on. There are 3rd party ones, but mixed
You won't need most of them though, Here maps, Here drive etc are great. Youtube is available through many apps, I like metrotube.

You'll need to get wp8.1 not to miss things like quick access, notification centre.

You can search for apps here
http://www.windowsphone.com/en-gb/store

Also worth a quick look to get an idea for apps in each category
http://www.nokia.com/gb-en/apps/lumia-apps/

There was an alternative app site by Nokia, but can't find it. Type in the name of an app and it'll show you any official and third party apps that support it.

Evernote is available but look at switching to onenote.
No official dropbox app, 3rd party or switch to onedrive.
Beyond Pod (I'm assuming podcast?) either use built in or podcast lounge.
flipboard isn't as far as I know, but bing news is very good.
No idea what Sonos is.

Things like vibe, Skype, twitter, whatsapp, lastpass, spotify(although reviews aren't kind to it, doesn't seem to support free account for a start) and Facebook are there.

Nokia mixradio is pretty good, not the same as spotify, but it's free. You create a mix by adding three artists you like and it'll play you a mix of similar, can also be downloaded to work off line.

Wp8.1 is buttery smooth. I really like it.

See I basically convinced myself to do the switch to windows phone too from android but can't find a reasonable contract with a 1520. The new android flagships are cheaper!

I've also been thinking about leaving android for WP. Be interesting to see what people have to say about it.

Having read up on the changes in 8.1, i'm even more tempted to give it a go.

Well here goes nothing, 1020 ordered from O2 Refresh. At £240 its worth the risk I think. I should hopefully also get £50 Quidco and £100 for the Note at CEX, so a possible outlay of £90.

Are the upgrades to WP8.1 network specific? Is it out already for the 1020?

Check the 920 thread. If you sign up for a devloper account, you can install it now, otherwise you'll have to wait, probably a couple of months. As it is network specific, they do their own tweaks.

Its very easy to flash it to the stock rom though.

I was going to suggest the iPhone 5s for the best camera+apps combo (easily), but you won't get one for £240. :p

That's a good price for the 1020.

Really iphone 5 over 1020 and Nokia pro camera app.

It doesn't even have OIS which is the biggest bonus on any camera, or maybe just with me and my shaky hands.

5s, and I don't mean camera apps, I mean general apps (which is what makes up the majority of the OP). The 1020 is the best camera by a good margin in the right hands, but in a point and shoot situation it's not always that great.

There's more to it than the home screen, though. If you're using this argument then Android is the best by miles and nothing else is worth looking at. :p

Technically you look at the home screen the most, with the Glance screen for bog standard day to day use the WP8 is the better option. Although I do think Android's good for the tinkerer, for the average Joe it's a not a great phone.

I like WP8.1 because it looks great, everything's just sooooo integrated, immune to malware, just buttery smooth. But no, I can't do the things my N7 can do, which leaves it open to malware etc.

I like WP8.1 too, when it has equal/better apps to the iPhone (that I use) I'll certainly consider it. I still don't think Android compares in that respect yet, so there's quite a way to go for WP. :(

It doesn't matter anymore, all the major apps are exactly the same, now's the battle of the UIs and what looks good, and that sure isn't the iPhone.
