I've been a long term Android man and tomorrow I will be making the switch from a GS III to an iPhone 5.

I was browsing an American hardware site the other day and started getting served up adverts for a UK electronic ecig site I use. Totally unrelated to that site no less and it made me wonder.

All of this data mining and gathering that Google do to "improve our experience", well ...it really doesn't, lets be honest.

I still have my Nexus 7 to keep my finger on the pulse so to speak.

Now the iPhone finally has a reasonable screen size and camera, i'm content to make the switch in knowing at worst I will have better battery life and bigger app selection.

SD storage doesn't bother me now neither as i'm going for a 64GB version.

It will be good being on the other side of the fence for awhile and not having to worry about what background processes are running, tinkering with disabling services & bloat. I use to love doing that as well as flashing custom roms and such but these days I just simply do not have the time. (Kids happened)

Just wondered if some friendly folks could clear a few things up for me.

1) Is it easy to upload pictures to Picasa? I still intend to make use of Google's storage that I pay for.

2) This whole iCloud thing, is that really worth the price of admission. What purposes does it serve other than music storage, and is there any restrictions on what you can actually upload to the cloud?

3) I know they introduced some form of multi tasking awhile back, but what does this actually mean in this sense? Does it keep a footprint of where you were to take you back or is it some form of true multi task?

Thanks

I love my Apple gear but I find iOS a bit boring and restrictive. I rarely tinker with my Android phone but I would miss my widgets, google maps, torrent downloads, big screen etc.

Grass is always greener I suppose.

I rarely used widgets, I just see them as something adding extra background tasks impeding battery and its just as easy to open the actual app.

The bigger screen will be missed but I often worry i'll drop the damn phone. Not the biggest of hands. Can wrap my fingers around it, but it's that whole shuffle movement when you get it into position to text and such that gets me, especially when drunk.

Torrents I would never do on a phone.

Maps will be missed though, I use that at least five times a year.

Wait until Google release their iOS version of Maps, I think Nokia are doing the same too. Having a unreliable maps app on a phone is terrible, it's the sole reason I haven't updated to iOS 6.0 yet since I use it quite often.

Absolutely love this phone.

My last outing with iOS was when the iphone 4 first launch and although I loved the phone the OS frustrated me constantly.

This time around it has been nothing but a pleasure all the way.

Setting up and sharing a photostream with someone blew my noggin. All seamless with few touches.

The camera isn't as good as taking pics with things moving as the S3 (if that makes sense) but the still shots with time to fully focus are top drawer for a phone.

Icloud is good, you can back your phone up to icloud - this excludes music and apps. And if you lost/replace your phone you can just download the latest backup from this and its all back there in a few minues - settings, contacts, texts, pics ect.

It's very easy to upload pics to picasa, just go to the App Store and search for picasa for a whole selection of apps that do the job. I currently use one called 'MyPics - Picasa web albums manager'.

Thought it was a flock rather than a herd!

I went in to correct that, but couldn't. hah

Well, had this phone a good few days now and my only concern is whether i'm getting the right battery life from it. Seems nowhere near the levels my iPhone 4 had a couple of years back, but there you go.

The screen on this is stunning. Absolutely beautiful. I like the tint you get with IPS screens.

Let's face it, there are some things Android is better at, and some things iOS is at. The arguments will never stop as to which is 'better' as long as there is a loyal following of each.

I find the free 5gb iCloud gives you is enough for storing enough App data between devices, for other stuff such as video and music storage I tend to use 3rd party storage, be it dropbox, youtube, or even google music.

As far as Multitasking goes, there are some pretty impressive things going on right now with music apps, check this out:

Even if you're not into the whole making music on your phone thing, it's only a matter of time before other Apps start to work together like this.

Yeah this is true, just had a look at nearly all the problem locations that made me rage have been fixed now.

Really? Here in London it still doesn't know where some postcodes are let alone restaurant names etc. Pretty sad state in my opinion - I have gone to using Nokia HERE maps which seem much better for actually finding stuff. Although the interface is a step backwards (stepped zooming, looks non-vector based)
