Android users - can I ask a favour please...

Would anyone do me a big favour and test an Android app for me? I need a dozen or so people just to install the app via a Play Store link i'd send you - would love any feedback but even just installing helps me.

It's a tiny app - and answers a very British question - Can I put my washing out? It uses local weather, lots of science, and (supposedly) accurately predicts if your washing load will dry, let you know when a good drying window starts, notifies you if you should bring it in, if its going to rain etc. It's silly, I made it for my wife after she asked a question, i've really enjoyed working out the physics behind it, and thought someone else might find it useful - but need 20 testers before it can be publically listed.

Mods - hope this is OK - there are zero adverts, zero monitisation, zero user tracking - just some interesting weather calculations and hopefully a useful app.

Thank you!

Try https://www.reddit.com/r/AndroidClosedTesting/ if there's no interest.

Have you used it yourself yet? How accurate is it?
Thanks for that, i'll have a look. I thought I'd see if anyone here might as I think you're all my sort of age/interest demographic!

yes, i've used it daily for the last month or so. Lots of tweaking the weather variables. I like physics but had to learn so much about meterology and drying physics. It was a fun learning experience. There are lots of microvariables the app can never consider, but really works - it errs on the side of caution so does play it safe rather than the opposite.

What's the weather source? Does it also need location permission to see which part of the UK you're in? Does sound interesting, so far I've been using Google assistant/Gemini on my Google Home devices to check but it doesn't tell you drying start time/drying estimate.

Who do you use for the weather? Going by the different apps me and my wife us giving us contradictory predictions is the one you use reliable?

Open-Meteo is the weather source, updated about every 15 minutes.

You can use the "my location" button to open your local prediction, so will ask for your location, but just as quick to type a place or postcode, which doesn't need any permissions.

The app will tell you safe putting out windows, if it will fill partly dry the percentage, if it won't dry why not, what time to bring it in etc.

Good question! I use Open Meteo, and open source weather model. It seems good but like all models, can get it wrong. The app should adapt to this though - if you tell the app you've put a load out, if the forecast changes for rain, the app will notify you

I use Rain Alarm.
It shows you where the rain has been and if it's heading your way.
I now know loads of people using it who I've recommended it to like window installers, roofers and scaffolders.
The app might give you some ideas.
