Android vs Windows Phones

Android supports flash, I thought Blackberry did now too, but that may just be the playbook. Some people are happy without flash apparently and whilst it's not essential it is nice to be able to load a site as intended or what videos natively.

The antenna problem was invented by the press.

Widgets are useless and you don't need them.

iOS has real multi-tasking.

Apps of your choice? What are you talking about.

Custom roms? I'm not a nerd.

3.5 inches is the optimal size for a screen, any bigger is just wrong.

I know this is a day late, but...

Personally, the ability to change every setting that I want to in one click is rather attractive, especially wifi/data as this consumes most of the battery. It also give me far more options to customise the feel.

http://lmgtfy.com/?q=multitasking+on+IOS - yeah, i rest my case on multitasking - see the first result.

You're not a nerd? Why would you be on this forum otherwise...

Apps of my choice, I'm talking about apple's censorship. For example, they judged having a wikileaks app unsuitable.

That is a matter of opinion on screen size. 3.5 inches may be the best for you but many others would differ, after all, people choose to buy dell streaks.

Edit - I only read the next couple of your posts after your last one, hence I didn't see that your post was a joke - here is what I would have said to an apple fanboy.

Zune is a great reason to get Windows Phone.

I drag a tv episode and it syncs and re-encodes it over wifi, simple. It even remembered where I was playing last on the PC on the mobile.

iTunes is terrible compared to Zune.

This is my third platform now iPhone 3G > HTC Desire > LG Optimus

Happy at the moment.

I'll probably buy the Nokia handset when it releases. Partly because everything will just work. One of the complaints I have of android is fragmentation, not software but hardware. Android has at least 4 didn't types of GPU's in their handsets. 2 from samsung (sgx540,mali400), 3 from quallcom(sp?), adreno 200, 205 and whatever's in the sensation, and nvidia's tegra.

Try getting developers to optimize their games for the different gpu's and lets not forget the future SoC's, which well add more slices to the android cake.

Dammit I want cake now.

P.s. I dont really care about gaming on my phone, I havent played one in quite a while. Hell, I've probably flashed my sgs and sgt more times than I've launched a game on either.

So why make complaints about the games on Android? Makes no difference to you.

Funny aswell that on my desire and sgs2 everything just works too.

I know you've not mentioned this but if you are after a buissnes phone i'd go with WP7 just for the intergration with other Microsoft products (maybe not yet but at some point down the line)

Its not about me though is it. I gave my sgs to my brother, it just worked for me, who wanted to play samurai vengeance and I said to him of course it'll work. The gpu inside the sgs is really powerful, only behind the tegra. But it didn't work, the games for sony ericson dont work. It worked for me because I dont play games, I'm constantly reading a book tbh its the reason I got a sgt, but not for users who like to play games on their phones.
I like android, but there's no unifying architecture for games and I think its going to keep splintering till google does something about it. The reason why everything just works on ios and wp7 is the internals are the same across the range and gpu acceleration under the hood to make it look pretty. The reason why tegra 2 is the platform of choice for honeycomb, gpu acceleration ui, otherwise samsung would have dished their new tabs with the sgs2 hardware.

Quite wrong there,

Firstly the issue with the game, this is because the game dev sold themselves to the highest bidder, in this case nvidia, hence implementing code that isn't standard OpenGL such that it only works on the frankly crap Tegra 2 chipset, is this a problem with hardware fragmentation or nvidia willing to splash the cash and devs not caring as long as they get some money?

Games for Android *should* use purely standard OpenGL imo, as then they'd work on any phone, but that's hard to enforce with the way the market is (and that's also the thing that makes Android 'better' than iOS/WP7, so it's a tough one really...)

Secondly the tablets, Tegra 2 is in the Samsung tablets for two reasons, firstly it's what Google used for the Honeycomb development which makes it much easier, but more importantly they have a limited supply of Exynos chips for the SGS2 (which itself will use the Tegra 2 in certain regions, also talk of those versions using an SLCD rather than SAMOLED as well due to supply).

Second point is a bit of a non-issue, second isn't really fragmentation but nvidia being their usual selves, unfortunately, I wouldn't mind if they actually produced some decent hardware but the Tegra 2 really isn't that great...

Any news on wp7 tablet os yet?
I think wp7 looks great and takes the best parts of both apple and android.
USB, mass forage, universal adapters from android
Closed system, more or less uniform update, iTunes like syncing from zune.
And with Microsoft and their purchasing power I fully expect to see the major companies making apps for it, probably before android.

none what so ever - it seems their going to push for Windows 8 on tablets.

:( I really can't get my head around Microsoft being so far behind on the tablet front. I'm not ging to run two mobile os, so until they realise a decent tablet the phones are out of bounds.

I must say I'm getting on much better with WP7 after a days use than I was with Android. Whether that's largely down to the phone I'm not sure, but it's very nice to use and easy to navigate. Good stuff.
