(android) when I browse the eurogamer website the Google store apps opens - is this a virus or dodgy

As per title, when I am browsing the eurogamer website on my phone, the Google play store regularly is opened up on the page of some random game. I can't make this repeat every single time, but it has happened more than 10 times. I have not noticed this happening on any other website. When I say random game - it is not one I have seen advertised on the page.

I did a search with the free version of avg anti virus but that didn't turn anything up.

I also tried removing the play stores launch by default settings, but that doesn't seem to have helped.

Any ideas what is going on?
 
Is it definitely the store it's opening up? If i was a terrible, evil, advert I'd like to a page which looked like the app store and hope people would click it now that chrome loads full screen by default.

Assuming it's the real store then it's surprising that this can live despite you killing off URL re-direct to launch play instead of a web page via URL, does the play store automatically re-route play store URLs when it's installed without the ability to turn this off? i have my iphone tester with me today so can't check this but you could simulate it with Chrome to Phone and sending play store urls to it.

Good point that it may not not be the real store that is opening up.

I have just tried searching for a few android games and when i click on the link it is asking me whether i would like to open up the link in the play store. Therefore it is possible that what i am seeing is some kind of dodgy full screen advert. I am only on android 4.1.2 though, so not sure if browser should be fullscreen by default.
