Last night my wife mentioned that she was been charged by Vodafone for the 2nd month running for exceeding her data limit. I looked at the Network data usage in Setting and it showed that so far this month the Email App (the one that came with the phone) linked to Yahoo account had consumed.

444mb - Mobile Data

but more surprisingly

20GB! over Wifi this is an average of 714mb a day!

This is just a standard personal email account so she maybe sends 2/3 emails a week and is receiving I gusss about 15-20 ish mainly marketing based emails. Groupon, Mothercare etc.

Any one had any similar problems?

Use a different email app?

I had this with my wife's email on our tablet. It was syncing the entire email history. Manifested itself in filling all the storage on the tablet, shown as 'cache' when I looked at what was using all the space, which I would clear and it would fill within a day or two. Wifi usage was huge.

Had to delete the email profile, and set it up again - with careful selection of syncing criteria.

why are you being charged for the wifi usage?

Sorry should have been clearer. We are not getting charged for this, only the mobile data. I was just surprised at the WiFi usage.

yahoo mail has been pretty awful with any kind of mobile access - I only access mine via the browser on my phone

Yeah that is what I have told her to do for now. None of the email is highly important so this is definitely a usable work around.

Sounds exactly the same. I think I will delete and start again to see what options it has for syncing. Although I think checking via browser could be the way to go.

Yahoo really are going down the pan in all aspects. I imagine the only reason a lot of people still visit the site is to check their legacy email account and they dont seem to be able to get that right either.

I think the problem is at the Android end, rather than Yahoo - in our case, we were using hotmail through the default Android email app (albeit on an older Android build, I suspect (on a Hudl1))

My Yahoo Mail app used just over 20mb on last months billing cycle and about 16mb this month.

I'm quite a heavy user, its my main email account.

No idea what is going on with yours!

Thats the sort of figures I would expect. Are you using a specfic Yahoo App or the Android Mail app? I will have a play with her phone when I get home this evening.

I'm using the Android Yahoo Mail app. I have't fiddled with settings, just using it as, logged into my Yahoo account.

Its not great at times to be fair, sometimes I get a wave of E-Mails and sometimes I get them as they come throughout the day... depends on It's mood it seems!
