Really shocked to see scenes like this Britain - watch the video to see what I mean. It's like a sub-section of society is devolving back into more primitive beings. I mean, shops should call the police if someone's nicking stuff from them, not to do crowd control. I really resent this import of mindless American consumerism.

Shock and horror as people go looking for bargains. People have been queuing and charging into shops during sales for years. Good luck to them and really nothing to resent here.

I have no problem with people shopping for bargains, I do have a problem when they stop behaving like decent human beings for the sake of a few quid, which is what this thread is about.

I don't think the problem is exclusive to American consumerism, but modern human behavior in a consumer world. It's no different to what we used to see in the 70s/80's with the Harrods/Selfridges sales that used to make headline news every Boxing day. That said, it's appalling and show our race at it's worse.

I'm sure that they're all decent people but just getting a little excited at the prospect of a good bargain. It doesn't bother me at all and good luck to them. You can't blame the Americans for it as it's been going on here for decades.

Do you moan about people rushing to get on a bus or train for a seat? It's really no different. I guess that being so polite and offended you're always at the back of any queue.

Must rush off for another bargain. ;)

On the bright side at least people have stopped rioting about the outcome of wrestling matches (1221), baker's loaves (1391) or an increase in alcohol duty (1743)

:p

Exactly this. Boxing Day sales have been like this for years. If anything I prefer the new 'American' date of doing it as it hopefully means more people spend time at home on Boxing Day with their families.

Haha remember this when the Ikea store opened in Edmonton :D

At one minute past midnight last night, Ikea's new flagship store opened in north London, and managers expected that around 2,000 bargain-hunters would quietly file in. The British, after all, have a reputation for being decorous queuers.

But Ikea had not predicted that up to 6,000 people would descend on the new store, in Edmonton, with a stampede to get in resulting in a frightening crush.

Thousands had been lured by bargains - some of which were only available until 3am even though a 24-hour opening was planned - such as 500 leather sofas for only £45. Cars were abandoned on the roadside as shoppers attempted to reach the store in time to secure the best offers.

Six people were taken to hospital, including a man in his 20s who was stabbed nearby at around 1.30am.
Lol stupid poor people and their odd little brains

I laughed at the fighting for Blaupunkt tvs, they're awful I wouldn't buy one for a tenner. Edit - different video but still people fighting about silly stuff is stupid.

Poverty is mainly caused by arrogant rich people or governments who don't really care. I have seen the rich spend vast amounts of money on things that have or has no real benefit to human beings, like landing space crafts on rocks, lol.

I tend to agree. It goes to show how easy it is to strip society of it's senses! People spending money for the sake of spending money, is a bit silly if you ask me. Obviously it's their money and they can do what they want with it but I think Louise Haggerty sums it up nicely:

“I don’t even know how much it costs, I don’t know even know if I’m going to buy it. I just wanted something,”

2/10 on the troll effort.

For some reason this reminds me of something seemingly totally unrelated.

I remember reading some years ago about some researchers who were attempting to model air craft evacuations under emergency conditions.

They had an airliner full of volunteers and were trying various different strategies for getting as many people off the plane as possible within various time limits.

Somehow none of it felt right however. It was all to orderly and civilised and the mix of people successfully getting off the plane within the time limit was all wrong. nothing like what actually happens in the real world.

Until one bright spark had the idea of offering a "Prize" for the first 10 people off the plane! (Something like 20 quid)

After that things became much more realistic! No more of this orderly queueing nonsense! People were climbing over the seat backs, Pushing and shoving, trampling the women and children to the floor and so on and the "correct" survivor mix (Larger men) was achieved!

:D

Awesome film, one of my favourites :D

Got a link to some info about the riot caused by the wrestling match? I thought you were talking about a Wrestlemania incident or something similar until I realised the 1221 was a year lol

Just been watching videos of scenes from Tesco in Coventry last night, looked to be a lot of chavs there, it pretty much looked like a riot, all that over some cheap tat TV's.
