Hey all, was just about to pick my new car up (07 Clio) and the garage rang me to say they have had an issue trying to tax the car and they have to phone the DOT tomorrow to see why it's not letting them tax the car, he said normally it's that the previous owner did not fill out the SORN form? Could there be anything else that could have stopped it from being taxed? The garage were very sympathetic obviously but I am really annoyed that I couldn't collect it. They said if thats the case it will take 2-3 weeks to get sorted. :( Has anyone else or someone in the business had this happen?

Thanks

Well they claimed it was out of their hands as they have to wait for the info from the DOT/DVLA (not sure where they get the info needed). Oh and they also offered me a car to use if I have to wait for them to sort out the tax.

it's not definate, he did said they have had that happen in the past, will find out tomorrow was curious to see if anything else could be the reason for them not being allowed to tax it?

Didn't think about it going back to the forecort within such a short time. Nevermind then :o

I failed to SORN my motorbike for a month and got a £30 fine - thought that was the end of it - went to sell it but had a private plate on it so had to write to DVLA to take plate off - they said because I had failed to SORN for one month I had to get it retaxed (£65) which meant MOT (£200) and insurance (£20 per month). Sick as a dog...............

The gimps have mislaid the log book! Told me they are trying to get hold of the first owner now. They said worst case scenario is a week as they would have to request a new one.

Negotiate a discount or walk. Cars are NOT selling like hotcakes, they need your business.

I'd go with this push them hard for a dsicount and if one is not forth comming take your money elsewhere it's a buyers market and they made the mistake so take advantage.

Right...just got off the phone. This is the story..basically the car's original owner had private plates on the car, they said when the owner traded the car in that the log book goes to the DVLA (I'm assuming to remove the private plates associated with this car?) and then back to the customer so the customer then has to take the log book back to the dealer. Basically my garage are saying that the previous dealer has not forwarded this on as they don't have it. So both garages are to blame but they have said they will offer me a loan car until mine is sorted (7-10 days IF they can't get the book). So I've given them until 12 tomorrow to let me know if they have found it at the other dealer and then I will have to consider my options.

I've paid the insurance on on it until march 09 when my renewal is up so if I tell them to stick it I bet my insurer will charge me to change it again (£50) so basically I will lose out on £50 which I can't afford to waste unless I tell them the garage messed me about and hope they don't re-charge me if I were to go elsewhere. I'm with Morethan btw.

You can afford to waste £50, you are obviously not skint or you wouldnt have just bought an 07 Clio.

Buy the car from someone else. They wont charge you £50 to move the insurance to another Clio.

Update:

Heard from the guy who is selling the car to me at he garage and he has been great, basically what has happened is the other dealer/owner have messed up big style. The original owner had private plates on the car and obviously her dealer was meant to send the Log Bog off the DVLA stating that she was moving the plates over to her new car. However they didn't do this and the silly girl decided not to say anything thinking she would save £105 by not paying the garage the fee to do this and kept the bloody log book!! So basically it's still registered for her plates and she is now at risk of losing her plates for not registering them for the new car she has now! Serves her bloody right for trying to get out of paying the £105!

Anyway I'm away this friday for 3 days, so they've had to send the log book off the the DVLA (which that idiot should have done!) to get the plates registered back to the original ones. I'll be given a full tank of fuel for the hassle and they are paying my insurance until I get the new one (3-7 days) so I really can't fault them.
