Each time u plug a flash drive or external HD into XP it loads drivers itsself or detects it and enables u to use it.... But i Recently built a new rig and installed windows vista ultimate on it.... this does not install them automatically it needs the drivers CD for everything.... and i have a flash drive and HD that dont have a disks... and finding the ACTUL drivers for them will be a pain in the Butt ...

Any help ?

my flash thing is sony (its a M2 card adapter that plugs into a usb)
and the HD is western digital now i already tried the sites for drivers got them installed them and no diffrence for that....

...why does it not just work like XP =(

yes i get that..... then i select 'search for drivers *reccomended*' as u would on XP....It then says insert disc i say NO but look for other solutions... then i get it could not install. =(

- Browse to C:\Windows\inf and find the file INFCACHE.1
- You need to move or delete this file but you can't until you don't give
full control
to Administator user.
- To do what stated above right click on INFCACHE.1 the select Properties
and then
security.
- Now click edit then add and in the box that appear manually type
Administrators
if you want you can click the check names button to be sure you have
entered it
correctly.
- At least give Administrators full control over this file and finally move
INFCACHE.1
in a location of your choice.
- Reboot and to test everything went well go to device manager and try to
uninstall and then autodetect a device of your choice. The device should be
correctly auto-detected now.

Have heard this works, not guaranteeing anything though!

hmmm....try changing this registry keys HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion
> \DevicePath to '%SystemRoot%\System32'

Ok u myt have to walk me through that a little... or just make it little clearer

thanks for this....

Hold windows key and press R this will bring the "run box" type "regedit" now on the left of the screen navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion

now in there (this is from memory so bear with me) there should be somethign either in the lef tpain or the right mentioning device path find that and let me know.

edit - why can i not type current without a space??? GRRR!

edit 2 - dammit!....ok currentversion

edit 3....wtf!

I am in Reg Editor... Cant find a Device manager within the pain on the left... bin through
HKEY. Current. User > Control pannel : but nout in there

and i bin through others...

hope am doing this right for you... ?

well blow me! xp has the same path!

ok click on current version on the left pane (so its highlighted) and on the right you should now see a list, one of them says device path.

right click it and choose modify and change it to %SystemRoot%\System32
