Annoying Ebay Member Re: Feedback, what to do?

It's a joke that the seller isn't forced to leave feedback first

The buyer only has to pay the money, I pay as soon as my bid ends... so should get the feedback straight away... I guess the only way this varies is if the buyer messes the seller around in terms of delivery arrangements, after paying
No it isn't a joke. Feedback should be left when the transaction is completed to the satisfaction of both parties. Until the buyer has received and is happy with the item, the transaction is not completed. Ergo - no feedback shall be left. The onus is on the buyer to leave it first.

i never leave feedback until i get it 1st. If i don't get it then i don't give, simple :)
Well if everyone did that, no one would get feedback.

It's annoying when sellers wait for me to give them feedback before they give me feedback. Sellers should leave feedback as soon as the money is sent.

Christ, what a load of whiners on here...

;)

Does your feedback score mean so much to you?

They really should make feedback compulsory in my view - I get fed up of ebay businesses and 'power sellers' who essentially make a living off the site, who get much of their business thanks to their own good feedback being a mark of approval and a sign of trustworthiness, yet never leave feedback in return.

I don't feel it would be hard for ebay to tweak the feedback system specifically for those running Ebay shops and power sellers to make it quicker for them to leave it either - simply give them new options to leave an automated feedback response (with a pre-defined message) upon receipt of payment, with a single click being necessary to do so.

Ebay is keen to highlight the importance of feedback as a means of gaining/showing trust, and some sellers rely on it (refusing to deal with people with less than 10 positives and the like) yet the fact that its optional makes it irrelavent to some who already have a good rating. Especially frustrating for people relatively new to ebay who seek to build up a good feedback rating themselves!

The thing is the whole feedback system is flawed - as has been pointed out by many people.
In an ideal world people would always leave feedback and would do so based entirely on the experience they had.
So if I won an auction and immediately paid and it then took 4 weeks for that item to arrive I might not want to leave possitive feedback because it took so long to arrive.
On the other hand, I did my part perfectly.
I won the auction, paid immediately.
However I can tell you now if I didn't leave possitive feedback I wouldn't get any despite being the "model purchaser".

I think feedback should remain hidden from one another until after both parties have filled it in.
You'd still get your one chance to retract it if you really wanted to and you could still have youjr opportunity to counter any statement made.

If somebody hasn't left me any feedback I tend to drop them an e-mail and ask them if they were happy with the transaction and if so could they please find a few seconds to let the communityh know - hide the request to leave feedback in a well written "just checking" message.

Yeah that's a good idea. I've seen it mentioned here before when someone doesn't want to leave bad feedback because the seller/buyer will do the same, which makes the whole concept of feedback pointless.
