Right, i'm probably being really stupid here but...

Bought a little 160GB Ext HDD set it all up....

but when i unzip / unrar files copy and paste etc it takes the same amount of data and GB's from my internal HDD which doesnt help. for example if i had 2GB left on my internal and i downloaded a game of 4GB i would unrar it and 50% i would get the little pop-up "low disk space" grrrrrrrr tried to sort it out with some caching settings but its still doing it, any ideas?

its a seagate 160GB EXT.

Thanks

Gaz

Windows uses the temp file on your C: drive by default, so if you have 2gb spare on your c: drive and try to extract a 4gb file on the drive, of cause you will get low space error, try freeing up space on your C: drive.

Or change the location of your temp file to the external drive while you are working on it. If the External drive is ALWAYS on you could leave the change permently. But the first time you forget to turn the Ext drive on, and try and do something that needs the temp file, you will get errors :)
