Hi All! please give me your advice on this problem its been bugging me for the last few days now

So, i went down a friends for a few days, and while i used my computer/keyboard etc down there and before then it was all fine for what i was doing... since coming back and setting my PC back up, when im typing or in games (WoW for example), it will "lag" my keyboard and it will have to catch up with itsself, in typing it will just "lag" which is annoying but i can cope with, but when im playing WoW or something, i will keep running in a direction for 1-3seconds longer than i had pressed the button.. its insanely annoying for WoW play and other things too..

any suggestions? or just a keyboard suddenly gone wrong?,

Thanks

Petros

i had this problem with vista but it seemed to fix itself maybe i downloaded an update

ah, sorry i should have included some details... im on windows xp, fully up to date, its a Saitek Eclipse II keyboard, so there are no drivers i can update as far as i can see :(.. and no its not a gaming grade keyboard but it never had this problem before. its not a power issue im fairly sure of that although the USB ports could be faulty, saying that my mouse seems to be working fine and any other usb devices (although i have none other in atm)

i didnt change them theyre on the default :(.. , i didnt change anything it just started happening when i bought my pc back from my friends house... i guess il try fiddling around with those settings but i dont think thats the problem :<

I'm guessing its a USB keyboard, have you got other USB devices running at the same time? If so try unpplugging them and see if it makes a difference.

PK!

Had an email from Saitek :

Hi,

if you press Ctrl + Alt + Del and bring up the task manager, then look at the performance tab, keep it on your screen. Then do some typing and watch to see if your CPU usage goes sky high for some reason. CPU resources going up can cause lags or delays, although if this is the case we need to find out why.

Another thing to do is try the keyboard in another computer to see if you get lag there, narrowing the problem down to the keyboard or the PC.

it does seem to create CPU spikes but its not always consistant, either way im doing more anti-spyware/trojan/virus scans etc right now.. nothing found so far.. anything else that could be causing the spikes other than a keyloggeR? i think its was one of the svchost.exe processes which were spiking.. altho they dont seem to be doing it now as im looking at the task manager

What is the lag like in safe mode? Or DOS? Have you tried an alternate keyboard? Are you sure the keyboard isn't just drunk?

well, i seem to have sorted the problem finally... it seems that i had a trojan in svchost.exe in windows/system32.... right... so 1) im very disappointed in AVG Free, which i was using before, this didnt pick up any threats.. i had always been slightly skeptical of free scanners, so i went back to the trusty NOD32 and it picked it up and sorted the problem.. so far there doesnt seem to be any keyboard lag,

Thanks for the replies people,
