I'm connecting using a HDMI to DVI cable and it works really well. Image quality is pin-sharp and I get the audio through the TV speakers. Really happy with the setup. However....

Quite often, when it brings up a webpage or dialogue box, it loses the signal for a second or two - the screen goes black and the TV brings up the "searching for signal" type text. It seems to be random - sometimes it does it moving from one web page to another.....sometimes when it brings up an install dialogue box in Windows. So to be clear, it's not random like a loose cable or bad signal - it does it randomly when trying to bring something new up on the screen.....even if it's not switching res or anything.

Any ideas on this one?

OK, I seem to have discovered the problem. I'm using the nVidia audio drivers on my GTX 460 and every time the system accesses the driver it causes the screen to blank before it plays the sound

If I switch to the onboard AC97 audio it's fine.

Anybody heard of this issue? I've had a quick Google and can't find anything.

Ive not heard of it before, just read your post.

Could it be because your using the HDMI to DVI adapter on a TV.

As in if it where a PC monitor would there be the pause/blank screen everytime the geforce audio kicked in? I doubt this pause/blank screen is happening it windows, it sounds like your TV is taking a moment to identify the extra signal!

Yeah, could well be I guess. Or maybe the cable is faulty.

I wonder if it will even let you choose the nVidia audio drivers if you connect via VGA? If it does, I could rule out the TV or cable....

I know that audio cannot pass through the VGA signal or cable.

I think you can use the audio codec on the graphics card to process the sound and then have the sound channeled out through whatever audio outs you have on the back of the IO panel or wherever, although i'm not sure.

the 5850 I have doesnt have an audio codec on it, I use the realtec i have on the mobo, its 7.1 and good enough for the amp I use. The last card I used with a built in audio codec was 4890 i just sold (http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18215296) but I still didn't use it. Give it a try n let me know!

OK, update on this problem and hoping the bump will get me some answers...

Swapped the DVI to HDMI cable for a mini HDMI to HDMI cable instead - problem persists :(

Really tried everything I can think of now. Any last ditch ideas?

Thanks
