Hi guys, I probably should have changed the router soon as I got the thing, but well I didn't...And I brought it ages ago now, so I couldn't even if I wanted to.

Basically, my router makes a lovely High pitched noise, rather like the noise someone has in they're ears when they have tinitus. Which by the way i have as well, which is lovely on its own, let alone with the router doing it back in my face :p

Question is, is there anything that could be done? To stop it? I've done a firmware upgrade once, as the router was crashing in the web interface...But that didnt change anything.

Or am I stuck with a Tiniutisised router?

The noise is coming from the unit itself, and there isn't a separate power brick so to speak...Just the plug for the power.

It's a D-link DSL G604-T.

Normally I turn the thing off at night, but my mother is using her laptop a bit more now, so I have to leave it on a lot more often.

have you tried contacting their support? they might jsut say send it back - especially if the web interface is crashign all the time..

My old D-Link 504T router used to make this noise too, also used to drop the connection a lot too, I ditched it and bought a netgear.

Some D-link models seem particularly prone to overheating, so make sure it is well-ventilated.

Maybe, but it does it as soon as it's on :)

I could send it back, but as I said I did the firmware and the web interface issue dissapeared.

I might email them for fun anyway, see what they come up with.

And as for pouring glue in, i'd rather not.

A-Link ADSL modem has been keeping such noises for something like four years.
Sometimes noise has been louder and there's been cyclic pulsations of frequency and such... for half year it has been little quieter.
Never had a single reason to think that it's causing problems.
