Hi guys

The other day i was very stupid and downloaded something fairly care free opened it and it ran scripts on my machine and put a lot of rubbish on it. I have spent a lot of time clearing the mess up and i now get nothing coming up from AVG, AVG antispyware or Spybot however i still keep getting annoying random pop ups from cellerado, amazon shop direct and sky poker..?

Anyone know what this is and how i can get rid?

cheers

jono

Make sure you've updated both AVG and Spybot. Might pick them up.

Failing that, try installing Spyware Nuker. I had the same problem a while back, and it picked things up that Ad-Aware and Spybot missed.

Download and run Hijackthis and tick the box when it asks you to run and save a log file. Copy and paste the log file into here and it will tell you all the nasties on your pc. Go back to Hijackthis and place a tick next to the nasties and then click on fix. They will be deleted.

You did run all your anti-virus/anti-spyware in safe mode did'nt you? Personally i think spybot has been left behind these days. I use A-squared free 3.0 and ad-aware 2007 free . You do have a firewall as well and not just the Windows firewall which is just about useless? Comodo firewall Pro is excellent and free for life. Keep everything updated, including Windows.

hijack this came back with nothg. Its wierd i get it clean , then retsrat my computer and avg finds the obfustat.vul/vtx virus, some trojans and i keep getting those cellarado.com pop ups...any ideas?

Also, is runinng in safe mode absolutely neccasary

Yes. Running them in safe mode is the best way to do it. When you boot up in safe mode only the bare minimum of programs, services and drivers are started. It's the only sure way to get rid of stuff. Otherwise they can just reinstall themselves.

Download Super Anti-Spyware. It's an excellent piece of kit. :)

Failing that, try the smit-fraud removal tool. That will definately get rid of it... if that particular piece of spyware falls into that category. :)

You say obfustat...Where is the file located? Cause Obfustat is also mistaken by AVG as a trojan, when it actually isn't. ie a false positive so to speak.

Find out where the file is / what the file is called if you can :)

I got Obfustat issues when Bioshock first came out.

I'm amazed no-ones told you the obvious which is before going into safe mode and running your spyware remover first turn off system restore else after cleaning the system it'll all be re-installed at the re-start. You can turn on system restore again when you're sure you're clean.
