I currently have

Acer v243H - 24" 1920x1080 dvi/vga
Iiyama E2409HDS - 23.5" 1920x1080 hdmi/dvi/vga

Running on one watercooled gtx 470 but that'll go the journey depending on what advice you can offer

Am looking to try gaming on a 3 monitor setup and wondered what gpu you guys/girls would reccomend, to complete the 3 monitor setup i was going to get another iiyama as above because they're on special this week.

The Acer model is the number thats on the frame but curiously in device manager it shows as B243HL if that makes any difference to my options.

I would prefer an nvidia solution purely because i crunch seti and projects on it when not in use so what would you all reccomend?

I will be looking at a few new gpus this week but would like to get the monitors hooked up to one card if possible and the sooner i make my purchase the better because all this dithering and window shopping is driving me nuts!!!!

Thanks for any help/advice in advance :)

The only nvidia gpus that will run 3 monitors are the new gtx 680 and a special edition gtx 570 as far as I'm aware.

Thanks for that OptimaLnrg :) i was not too sure i seen the dual dvi/hdmi/displayport but not sure best way would be to set them up given that 2 monitors would have dvi/hdmi and one only dvi am getting well confused with my connection options :(

Best option would be a 3GB 7950 or 7970, the extra VRAM will come in handy at the larger resolution, also has the benefit of only need one card (I know you can do surround from a single gtx680, but it only has 2GN of VRAM compared to the 795/70s' 3GB)

GTX 570 2.5gb's have gone down in price to £280 :D

You can have them connected using DVI/HDMI/DP or the various combinations of those connectors, but for 3D surround they need to be the same connector.

4GB 680's aren't too far away

Hi, maybe what learned from going 3 screens can help you out with your decisions.

I wanted a budget 3 screen setup and did it at furst with 1 6950 2gb used all 3 screens on dvi but 1 was going through a startech mini displayport adaptor, Honestly as long as you accept frame rates been below 60fps as a budget solution its quite good mass effect 3 and modern warfare 3 ran smooth as silk on it witheverything maxed however games like bf3 needed the settings on lows and mediums but if money is tight it gets the job done.

I then added an extra 6950 and obviousky performance went up however iwas always plagued with stutter and some really low fps dips at times.

Since then ive got rid of the 6950's and got 2 480's in sli have to say that they run everything i throw at em with lots of eye candy i also find the nvidia surround a better experience to eyefinity (not that eyefinity is bad) its just having all the screens on dvi with no adaptor has got rid of the tearibg i had on the screen going through the adaptor and so far i find the nvidia sli a lot smoother for me.

If i were you i would probably sell the 470 and try to get a dual gpu setup if you can handle the power/heat then grabbing 2 480's while they are getting cheap is in my experience a great idea they outdo a 7970 and the 680 and cost less, hoewever if your put off the 480s you could try for 6950 crossfire setup as they are falling fast in price and worst case 1 can run your screens till you can get another.

The only single cards from nvidia 5 series that can do 3 screens is the 590 or if you can find one kfa do the mdt 560 and mdt 570 which can do 3 screens however they seem to carry too high of a price for the performance. Imo.

He would need 2 in SLI though to run 3 monitors in Nvidia Surround, assuming he has an SLI compatible motherboard.

That's what i waas suggesting :)

He does have 470 tri SLI (last time i checked he did anyways :p) so i'd presume he does have an SLI capable ig :D

Thanks for the input chaps much appreciated it looks like 580s then, yeah the setup has undergone a fair few changes in last few weeks.
So i can connect 2 x iiyama 1 via dvi the other hdmi and the acer via dvi and that should be ok ?

Appreciate this even though i will be getting multiple gpu i wanted the monitors on one gpu so the rest could be "put to work" so to speak
Cheers :)

I forgot about the 480's on offer at the minute oh noessss more decisions mind they would go underwater but would take me close to my electricity limit of £2 per day :)

I'm reasonably certain that you need to have two gfx cards connected to the monitors.

The GTX 480 is a poor choice as it lacks the VRAM needed at 5760. 2gb would be the bare minimum at that resolution, I personally decided to go for 2.5 gb

Experience or assumption? In my experience the only game that you ca get vram limited is bf3 and thats only at ultra however high is fine and looks the same and at my res uses 1432mb and no more.

Show me £370 gpu setup faster for games and 3 screens than a 480sli? Under water you can run them at crazy speeds.
