you can see my specs in my sig, I did plan to get another 5850 but I'm wondering is it really worth it? I have a 24" T240 samsung at 1920x1200.. I like to play at that rez but sometimes i do nock it down to 1080p rez if playing crysis.

I sopose the question is will i notice a big diffrence with another one, I dont really play crysis much anymore but crysis 2 is comeing out this year as i think DX11 aswell as other games.

The other thing is the nvidia card thats "coming out" anybody know when? Is it worth the wait for that? or get another 5850..

Please leave your feedback, and thank you for reading this.

No, you don't need another card, nor will you need an Nvidia card, the 5850 is fine at this present time.

Remember that Crysis was a very demanding game, and stressed even the most powerful cards in DX10.

that card runs every game on max no problem except for crysis. I'm sure you can compromise just for that game. As for crysis 2, well let the game actually come out, then judge your card then. If you must buy, buy it then, i'm sure it will be a lot cheaper too.

You need something like a quad fire to run that game @ 50-60 fps @ max. Badly coded game is the words that are being spread.

Ask yourself why you really need another card. Will your games really look that much better? I doubt it. So ok, you get 10 fps on top of 75 fps for example. In fact the more fps your card pumps out than your monitor can handle, you run the risk of tearing and you'll have to slow things with v-sync. It like buying a performance car on British roads.. you are still limited to 70mph max.

Games aren't exactly testing the hardware at the moment and this is unlikely to change for the foreseeable future.

Ok thanks guys, I do get what you mean but nothing like seeing 2 in there lol, but i dont need it so i wont bother, not unless i have 2 for crysis 2 or any other game.

Thanks for your input.

If yer after another one id be buying now, as now that they are finally starting to come in in good quantities, they are putting the prices up again :D

I would get the 5850 now if I was you mate. 5850's in crossfire isn't an overkill atall, for example. The 5870 and 5850 "struggle" to play dirt 2 dx 11 on max settings. Another 5850 will act on that ;) Also, if you get one know, you can decide weither you need it or not, just resell if needs be.

Depending on how our system copes atm; it sounds fine to me. I am under the impression that nothing can really cope with crysis very well. If it was me I would definately wait for teh prices to fall.

I've been considering it too. Could do with a bit of extra oomph in Crysis and DiRT 2. But the inconsistency of CrossFire at the moment and the added expense and power requirements put me off.

hhmm so looks like i need to think about this lol, I dont really care about dishing the money out to get one but gotta think is it worth the performance boost

I would say it's deffo not worth it, you're not really going to see any difference in any game, not for some time. I would say looking at your specs the money would be far better spent on a hard drive upgrade to SSD, that you will notice !

He aint looking for an ssd tho is he? Getting an ssd would not help him with gaining frames in games what so ever. Loading times yes but thats it.

That's the point, getting another 5850 on his 60Hz LCD won't likely show him extra frames in games either. All I'm saying is IMO he would be better to spend his money else where,..

where the hell did you get this dirt 2 struggling to play with a 5850 i play it maxed out 1920x1200 full AA around 50fps so i dont know where ya got this statement from.

You just shown the problem. For smooth gameplay, 60fps gives you smooth gameplay. Getting another 5850 with avg 60frames, so he wont notice any fps loss.

That where I got my statement from ;)

I play it on 3 montiors at 5040x1080. I use a 5850 on max settings in DX11 mode and the game is as smooth as anything (havnt checked FPS but no need as no slowdown)

So yeah that statement seems a bit incorrect
