Hey peeps,
So I am selling my trusted Gigabyte windforce 7970s and making the jump to 780s. I have that decision made but as a staunch dis-liker of the 7970s ref model coolers due to the hairdryer effect I was wondering would I see much of noise difference getting 2 ref model 780s? I would like 2 of the GB WF 780s but they are quite a bit more money and its too much for me. Is the cooler that good and does it just sacrifice quiet to be such a good cooler?

Anyone out there have/had any experience with this?

Also are all the ref models identical? I like the look of they Gainward that looks like a giant heatsink :)

Anyone got one of those? I had no trouble with 2 Gainward 580's.

Phantoms are supposed to be good coolers, Gainward also are supposed to have a pretty good RMA setup.

That said, I'm sure its been mentioned before that those 'Titan Coolers' on the 780's are pretty good for reference blowers.

I know it will of been talked about to death I just never really paid much attention as I couldnt afford them so I pretended they didnt exist :)

From what I understand they are excellent coolers just some people find ref cards ok but I found the noise offensive on my old XFX 7970.

The bigger coolers will always be better, plus the phantoms are on offer just now ;)

Oh and they're pretty sexy cards.

I know mate, I loves the look of them. Without actually having looked at close up pictures they just look like the heatsink is on top of the fans? They are nice but the Gigabyte WF ones arn't much dearer and really I will need to pick up 2 as going from 7970 crossfire to 1 780 will be quite drop in performance. Plus 1400p was the reason I went dual cards in the first place.

Sounds good. Let me know what they sound like. What card/s are you coming from?

Please don't laugh but....two EVGA 9800GX2! lol. They're the top spec ones that EVGA did and have been brilliant but are so bloody loud and now constantly sit at 100% fan speed and deafen me.

I also bought an EVGA GTX780 that'll be sold straight away but only after I've popped it in the system and run some tests including noise and temps. The cooler looks pretty stock so will be a cool comparison between the Asus CUII cooler and the EVGA one. I plan to water cool as I've just watercooled my system as I run a FX8150 at 4.8Ghz.

Can I justify keeping all 3 GTX780s?????? :D:D:D Total cost of £1275 if I do which is still a bit of a steal.

Just a word of warning, you'll probably receive a suspension for even hinting at dealing outside of the MM. The mods are like flies round **** over this sort of thing.

I was wandering. I know what forum rules are like but it'd be helping me out offloading one of the cards as three is totally unnecessary. Lol.
