Another Another Headset Question

Ive searched the forums and have a basic idea that for better quality sound, the 5.1 headsets are OK, but maybe not as good as some other headsets.

However, I'm still a little undecided on which road to go down. I'm going to be getting a new Asus Zonar soundcard D2X / D2, as my razer soundcard is a little broke and I don't like the barracuda headset either, cos its fell to bits and has NO BASE.

So. I see that the Sennheiser PC350 Pro-Gaming Headset is on offer. I could get these as they will be fine, but would a cheaper Headset and clip on mic be better.

Also I see that some of the sterio headsets only have one jack connection or what ever it is, where as my old Medusas had more.

How does this work with the Xonar having lots of holes to plug things into?

Any ideas on what the sound will be like for Gaming / Misic using an alternative to the Sennheiser PC350 Pro-Gaming Headset?

Bit long winded, but i'm looking for options and opinions from people who have this soundcard and play games :D

Cheers

im in the same boat, really fancy the pc350 but lots of people say just get normal senn headphones and clip on mic. how good is that clip on mic for quality, as much as i want nice sound i wouldnt want to put people on vent through pain with a bad mic crackling away, however with senn headsets i know the mic is spot on

hmmm, spose theres only 1 way to find out for myself and they are quite cheap.

Are there any senns around the £50-£100 mark that are closed cups like the pc350's rather then on ear?

For the price you can't really go wrong with the elara mic.

I'd get either the goldring DR150's or Senn 555's along with the elara mic. They'll plug into the headphone input in the back of your xonar, then you can select dolby headphones using the software, creates a virtual 5.1 surround experience through your stereo headphones. Well at least that's what happens with the cheaper xonar DX I've got, but I'm sure the software will either be the same or very similar.

I'd go for open back headphones, get better sound quality at that budget, the goldrings or senns will do nicely ;)

Get the PC-350's. Personnaly wanted a complete headset / mic package and went for them. Didn't want to get a clip on mic as imo there no good for gaming.

I have tried just about every gaming headset that has ever been made :) and I have to say the PC-350's are by far the best in terms of build / sound quality. You will hear things that you have never heard before with them. Plenty of bass etc.

Well worth the money

Ive had the PC350's and found them uncomfortable to wear and not a patch on the Senn 555's which are cheaper and much much better.

So if it was me i'd either get the 555's or the 595's and a clip on mic.

deluxe1, how does the clip on mic compare to the pc350's though, i'm on vent all the time when gaming with mates, is it suitable for that?

Ive never had a elara clip on mic im just going by what ive read about it on here and other forums,i have had the 350,555 and 595's tho.

The elara is only a few quid so you could get one first to see if its up to your standards and if so keep it then order a set of headphones?

Thought I would restart this thread rather than create a new one as it is pretty much on the same subject. I have a pair of 595s and they are indeed superb, I love the comfort of the cloth ear pieces. These are plugged into my dolby amp for night viewing movies. With my pc, I currently use PC-165s which also have a cloth (albeit not enclosed) earpiece. Again these are extremely comfortable for extended wearing.

My questions come from wanting to make a slight change and had been considering getting the 350s but my questions surround the comfort of the 350s and the need for amping the 595s.

Here goes:

1: How comfortable are the 350s? Someone said they have that fake leather instead of cloth. Does that make them sweaty and hot to wear for extended periods?

2: How much worse is the sound quality to the 595s?

3: When hooking up your 595s do you all use an amplifier or do you run direct from the soundcard? I am using an Asus Xonar D2X PCI-e. If you do use a headphone amp some suggestions would be gratefully received. My only concern when hooking up the 595s is that I am not a huge fan of clip on mics.

If the 350s are sweaty and rubbish then I might just stick with the 165s and get this £2.50 mic and give the 595s a blast.

I ended up getting the DR150's Goldring with a desk mic....

I posted a thread, but no one was interested. I'm very happy with the 150 goldrings. The sound is much better than my razer barracudas and medusas. However, the bass is a bit crap, but you get used to it and really. High bass is overated.

The 5.1 dolby settings work on the xonar DX, but I can actually hear more things just setting it to "music" in games.

CSS, Crysis and Farcry2 for me all play batter in "normal music mode" with the xonar and the DR150 Goldring. I can still hear what direction everything is coming from and it cuts out every sound you "don't need to hear" when you have dolby 5.1 enabled. sometimes you can just have too much sound in games and it distracts you.

Glad you like them, I'm getting on great with my DR100's. I prefer dolby headphones with mine, especially in games and watching Hi-Def movies, reproduces surround sound brilliantly. The only thing I don't use it on is for my music, sounds funny with surround sound on.

I'd watch your swearing on here mate, family forum n that ;)
