Another 'are these temps OK' thread

Ah, I did set it to 'Best Performance' in Power Options. I read somewhere that this increases the performance of SSDs, not sure if that's actually the case or not.

I'll give your suggestions a try. Thanks again.

That's probably the reason then, the high performance options always force the cpu to run full speed. It shouldn't have any affect on ssd performance though whichever option you use.

Just wanted to thank spixelpixel for the help over the last few days.

Changing the Power Plan immediately reduced the idle voltage back down to .880. Idle Core#0 temperature is 32' (with a low of 30'C). I could get this lower if I had more efficient cooling but silence is priority too. The Scythe isn't doing too badly at only 600rpm to be fair.

I'm happy with these results. I'm going to Prime it again tonight for 2 hours to see if any other problems arise. If not I think I'll leave it there.

Are there any other tweaks/settings I could employ to get things running even cooler/more efficiently?

Thanks
David

Around 30c is pretty much the standard idle temp for an i7 cpu at normal ambient so wouldn't worry about trying to get it lower.

My i5 3450 which is only 0.78v in idle is at 29-31c right now, and that's in a full size case. Even if I put the cpu fan full speed it doesn't budge. The only way to get it lower would to be in a pretty cool room.

Nothing else to tweak really apart from trying a lower voltage once that proves stable to try decrease the load temps + power consumption even more. Probably not worthwhile though :-)

0.78v! wow.

Offset at the moment is set to 0.07 in the bios. Am I right in thinking that if I set it higher, (say .10) a lower idle voltage and a higher load voltage will be obtained as a result?

So my default voltage is 0.925.

0.925 - 0.07 = 0.855
0.925 + 0.07 = 0.995

I'm seeing 1.180 on load, sometimes slightly higher.

Still getting used to this offset/turbo thing as you can see!

Cheers
