Another asus p67 owner with issues

Having just purchased a 2600k, asus p67 deluxe, 8gb corsair vengance ram and a 6950, i am now greatly disappointed that it wont work. On first attempt to boot i got a 3 beeps GPU error when trying to POST, and the graphics card LED stays lit. I removed the GFX card and installed my old 4850. Same error. I switched the 6950 to the 2nd PCI-e slot and it worked, although once i installed windows i realised that the card wasnt recognised correctly and was only down as "standard vga card".
Back went the 4850, and this card has been recognised and works in the 2nd slot, but still not in the first. I tried the BIOS update to no avail, and ensuring that the BCLK was set to 100. Given that i get a reproducible error with the 2 cards in the first slot, I am assuming this is a motherboard issue.

Any ideas or is this another dead asus mobo that needs to go back?

Thanks

Oli

It would appear that the 1st PCI slot isn't functioning correctly.

Also once you install Windows the GPU will always show as "standard VGA adapter" until you install the ATI catlyst drivers.

I'd try installing the drivers and then attempt putting the GPU in the 1st slot. Also BIOS update it may solve the issue.

Thanks for the reply. Sorry i should have clarified that I did attempt to install the drivers and they recognise the 4850 but not the 6950. It refuses to be recognised by the latest catalyst drivers, saying no ATI hardware is present.

I updated the BIOS to the new 1053 (beta) and i also clearewd CMOS as per the memory issues other people have been experiencing and both have made no difference

For what its worth, im having an issue with my P8P67 Deluxe where on first boot, i dont get a display. I have to turn off the pc and on again. Happens after every shutdown. Using a 6950 as well but ive not narrowed it down to where the problem lies.

i'm really hoping my ASUS p67 pro is working =/ not been able to test it yet due to a stupid power supply .. it's odd that there seem to be a lot of problems with them going by this forum when the early reviews i read about it were pretty good

If you've not yet unpacked it then save yourself a shedload of grief and return it immediately :)

That is the most stupid advice ever.

We have sold hundreds of P67 boards this week and a few have issues and you are telling him not to open it?

These are general "new chipset" teething problems which happen around every launch, not the bubonic plague you are making it sound like!

Well said. If it works it works, great. If not RMA it.

Then why am I seeing loads of issues with the Asus board and next to none with the other brands? This is not a "new chipset" issue at all, it's an Asus one.

These boards have been shipping for less than a week and already we have faulty boards, shaky BIOSes and memory incompatibilty problems, despite the memory being on Asus's approved list.

My recommendation stands. He may have no problems but there's a far far higher probability he will than if he just returns it and gets a different brand. The posts in this forum and elsewhere support this.

Well said. If it works it works, great. If not RMA it.

And if the latter situation occurs, the time spent installing, diagnosing, removing, returning and replacing the board is the "shedload of grief" he stands a far better chance of avoiding with a brand other than Asus.

+1 had a few teething issues, but now all seems well

(if anyones wondering: put ram in slots A1+B1, not A2+B2 as per the manual, also make sure you connect a fan to the CPU header, after that I've had no real issues)

Ok humble pie time - it's working!

Ended up clearing the CMOS at the request of Asus support, by removing the battery and switching the CLRTC jumper. This seems to have cured the problem so I can only assume the CMOS was corrupted in some way.

Anyway, apologies if my earlier comments were a bit "harsh" but I was raging at the time - I'm a bit calmer now I've got it working.

I'm still somewhat annoyed that Asus is sending boards out in this state and at the other issues people are reporting but, for the moment, all is well here.

Booting to a black screen has happened to some people (on both 5 & 6 series cards) with the 10.11/12 drivers. A has finding a black screen upon trying to wake the pc from screen saver. I can't remember which file is causing it, bit of googeling will tell you, but people have reported it (amusing amd fix it in the next 6 months )

Tried clearing the cmos? I could be wrong :p

Most popular board/brand tbh.

Ive managed to solve all but one issue now. The fix, clearing cmos about 5 times lol. Eventually seemed to get there. My ssd now works, although strangely not with one of my hard drives plugged in (was on my old windows drive if that makes any difference).

The only annoying this is my top PCIe x1 slot doesnt work with my soundcard, have to use the very bottom full length x4 slot (the middle x1 slot is covered by the gpu)

na it is already open and in my case just waiting to get my PSU replaced as it came with no PCI-E 6/8 pin cables.. will probably be at least a week untill i can test it

Well my story had a happy ending. i have the asus packed up and ready to send on Monday, and got a shiny new asrock extreme 6 which worked perfectly the first time i tried it. exactly as it should be...

With my P8P67 the only issue I had was that the BIOS needed updating in order to run the CPU past 4.3ghz otherwise Windows failed to load.

I just downloaded the 1053 Beta BIOS on Asus website and transferred it to my external Hard Drive which has a FAT32 partition as you can only run the BIOS update from a FAT partition.

Once that was done I was up and running at 4.6 with relative ease.
