Sorry guys, thought I would get your opinions on this build I am considering:

I will be adding some components I already have:

Corsair 1000W PSU
Ati 4870x2
Western Digital 1TB HDD
Logitech dinovo keyboard & mouse
Logitech Z5500 speakers
NEC 24" gaming monitor

Clearly I am buying the system to overclock it and prevent the bottleneck that is holding my video card back. Might be tempted to replace the video card by selling this one and buying something more capable of playing FSX/Car games (all of which the 4870x2 can handle at the moment).

Really needed advice on RAM/Mobo/CPU combination. Thanks
 
the cooler is a bit much, the titan fenrir is less than half the price and is still a top performer.

do you need a soundcard, onboard is very good these days.

and change the ram to something that won't die, or turn up faulty.

such as corsair or gskill, or even the ocz reaper ram, just not the gold stuff.

Yeah def need a soundcard, had experience with onboard sound a few years ago and it was rubbish!

I needed some advice on RAM, so I will look into changing it to something better, had ocz reaper htc in the past and they were very good!

EDIT: Switched to OCZ Reaper but kept the V10 as some reviews suggest its not excellent for OCing.

Just read the anantech article about memory scaling on i7s. Sounds like I would be better getting a slightly slower set of sticks with tighter timings...I like the sound of this:

if the extra £40 doesnt bother you, then ok, but one slight issue is the height of the ram sticks will or can interfere with large coolers.

have you thought about a closed loop water cooler- http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=WC-002-CS

it will get a i7 to 4ghz and the pump head is compact to not get in the way of the reaper ram.

Yeah your right I should go for the G.Skill ram! I have thought about the corsair watercooled setup but once again in the reviews it seems that it does limit OCing somewhat in terms of being able to cool!
 
so its £20 chaeper than the coolermaster V10 cooler, will cope with the heat output of the cpu at close to the speeds you want, and wont interfere with tall ram sticks.

Hmm reading the reviews the V10 comes into its own in really really hot situations, which is probably not a good thing. Will have to research this and see what cooler will do the job!

Been watching and reading some reviews. Quite a few show http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-000-CI performs better than the Corsair Water Cooler.

And it's £10 cheaper.
