Yeah, well i've been asked to put together another PC for one of my relatives, and i've been pondering it for a while so i think i've got most of it sorted, i just wanted to see what you think. Basically:

Budget of £400
Includes Monitor, Keyboard and Mouse
Includes network card/adapter
Includes Sound Card if budget allows
Not be used for Gaming, but will be doing some heavy Sound Editing and maybe some Video Editing.

That's about it really, i've had trouble getting it all in budget but they can go a little bit over. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Oh, and it doesn't need to include an Optical Drive, i won one in a competition so i'll use that.

Any size monitor, cheapest probably. Since it's being used for sound recording and editing i don't know... if it's that important just leave it out, and i can add one in at a later date. Doesn't need an OS by the way.

Comes to £365.95 if you take the free delivery. That leaves room to add a sound card if you want at a later point, or just buy one and install it

I thought AM3 CPUs worked in AM2+ boards, but not the other way round? But still, i was wondering is the 7850 would be better anyway since it's the same core frequency, but it has an L3 Cache? What do you think?

The 7850+ is a good processor.

I'm sure it will be easily good enough for everything he needs, did you budget an after market cooler?

I know it's a good processor, i'm just debating if it's a better processor or not. I didn't add an after market cooler because it doesn't really give off that much heat and the one that comes with it is okay, so i hear. Should i?

I dont know which is better, the 240 might clock better but i don't really know. They are both 2.8ghz, and the only reason i would say add after market cooling would be if he wanted to overclock. Those processors clock to an easy 3.3/3.4 ish...

Meh, he wants it to last as long as possible, so the only overclocking i would do would be where i don't increase the voltage.

Why would i want the more expensive motherboard at the expense of all the other components being slightly worse?

I think having this would be you best option. I swapped the processor from the 240 to the 7850+ and the Kingston ram from the 800mhz version (39.99) to the 1066mhz version (37.98) and the PSU to the modular equivalent.

If you get cheper motherboard you will have to get a graphics card too, so spend a bit more and get a motherboard with built in graphics and save money on buying them separate
