Another car problem....

Hi,

I have a Pug 106 1.1 T reg, I've only had the car for about roughly 2 months now. about 3-4 weeks ago I started to notice a rattling in the back I fought it could have been the plastic trim on the drivers side panel as it sounded in side the car, getting a mate to hold firm on the side panel while I drive the rattling still continued so I got the rear seats removed and parcel shelf out of the car and still happening. So maybe its not in the car I fought and started bouncing the rear end of the car up and down cannot hear any knocking or rattling so I put the car on some axle stands and wiggled the wheels to feel for any play and no play I could feel. Got under the car and wiggled everything that could move including the heat shield and bolts, taken brake drums off and the shoes and fittings are in good condition. I am now lost on where it could come from.

This is no slight noise its loud and is driving me crazy, too loud to ignore that is and the used to be mechanic in me is making me even more annoyed as i cannot find the cause.

Anyone got any ideas where to check?

The boots on 106's tend to rattle like something possessed for some reason, my wifes old 106 was the same, needed the door catch adjusting so it'd shut tighter.

Good point I didnt think of checking the boot door. I will check now.

exhaust hitting rear beam maybe , one of the exhaust mounts came loose?

Ok no movement in the door shut solid. Yeah I checked the exhaust first when I got under the car.

My Focus ST had a few annoying rattles that i never got to the bottom of. I searched high and low and tried a lot of things. Even had my dad in the back looking for the noise as i drove around for a bit

Fortunately my Octy VRS is built quite well inside and doesn't have any rattles!

I hope you get to the bottom of it. I never did!

Having the rigidity of a wet paper bag will do that!

Could also be the spare wheel/jack etc?

The spare wheel cradle is not rattling neither.

I really just hope it's not the trailing arm bearing worn.

I've found what the problem is the boot floor has rusted to the point where it become detached from the O/S body of the car. I got a quote from the local backyard garage for £45 all in, but I am sure he didn't have a good look at scale of the work that it would need.
