+1 for the memory choice.

It is sad that you did not go the AMD route. A FX-4300 or FX 6300 yould do a better job long term, with some overclock of course :) But still a decent built.

a lot of people, including myself would disagree with you there.. The i3 has a lot more Raw power than the 4300..

That being siad the 6300 and 83520/8350 are pretty solid chips.
 
the original plan was to go z77 and I3 and then later upgrade to the 3470k (hoping they would reduce in price upon haswell release)

my budget was quickly escalating so went B75 as a budget interim choice.

the ram i was lucky with, i nearly bought all this yesterday but was sure id read somewhere that the weekly deals start on a weds so waited until today (nothing in my basket was on any sort of deal so wasnt going to increase in price)
when i seen the sammy ram i clicked buy.

thanks to all the help guys, will post up a build log.
