Umm anyone kind enough to have a look at the following for me , suggestions/comments are more than welcome.

Code:
Career objective

I am keen to further my career in Software Development and seek to improve the skills I have acquired so far after my time at University. A progressive career where the level of my knowledge/responsibilities is increased over time to stand me in good steed for the future is ideal for someone like me.

Skills, experience and personal attributes

Programming skills

I am keen to learn new programming languages, and I have had experience with the following languages in the past.

• ASP.NET
• C
• C++
• C#.NET
• CSS
• HTML
• Perl
• Java
• VB
• VB.NET
• VBScript

Industry experience

After finishing my degree course in 2004, I actively pursued a role in a Software Development company. Within two months I was offered a position in my current job, the skills I have learnt here have been vital in aiding my development in skills such as problem solving, communication with the customer and working to a deadline.

Keenness to learn new technologies

I am very keen to use and learn new languages/technologies and I have shown in the past that I am very quick to pick up the necessary skills in order to use to a proficient standard.

Qualifications

2000-2004 University of the West of England, Bristol, BSc Computer Science, 2:1 (Hons) Achieved

1997-2000 Olchfa sixth form school Swansea, 3 A’ Levels including Computing, Mathematics, Physics

Employment History

08/04-Present Sefas Innovation Ltd, Bristol

Applications Developer responsible for maintaining existing software for clients, as well as developing new solutions, such as mail sorting for BT’s Red Reminders’ letters which enables them to print large volumes on high speed cut sheet printers whilst being able to make huge savings on postage costs with the Royal Mail.

09/03-04/04 Medical Connections, Swansea

For my main final year project I am contracted to develop tools for the .NET Framework used in medical imaging applications. From this I have learnt how to operate within a professional programming environment and have learnt several new technologies based around Microsoft’s .NET Framework and the DICOM imaging protocols.

09/02-07/03 Scottish and Southern Energy Plc, Havant

During my industrial placement year, as part of my university degree I was fortunate to work at the computing centre for this major utility company. During this work placement I assisted in the migration from a thick client system to a thin client environment. I gained valuable skills in scripting and the server networking environment. I especially enjoyed the responsibility this post gave me and the opportunities provided in travelling to offices in Scotland.

My first thought reading through this is that ..

1. You say you have all this programming knowledge but fail to state how and where you have used it in a commercial environment. You need to specify exactly the experience you have and not that you can just code. Start by listing any projects you have worked on and the methods you used to complete them i.e. Analysis, design, testing, documentation etc. You will need to specify what level of user intervention you had as this will emphasis on your communication skills, which is critical for any programmer.

2. The CV is very one sided. It tells me that you want to gain the experience, and then bugger off elsewhere. Sorry to be blunt. You must emphasis clearly what you will give the employer, not the other way round. The criteria is simple, “do you match the employers objectives”. By all means mention you objectives, but not as much as you have here.

3. You mention you are keen numerous times, this sounds too desperate IMO. Again, sorry to be blunt but being keen isn't enough.

4. You need to mention the level of experiance you have for each skill you have and number of years. Stating you have C++ experience again isn't enough. Specifiy where this has been used and project you have worked on, a i mentioned in point one.

If you want, i'll email you my CV and that will give you something to aim for.
If it helps.

Cheers matey that's helpful :)

no problem, remember, You are trying to sell yourself to the employer.. You can leave questions like carer progression, pay etc for the interview. A CV is just a means to get your foot into the door..

As i said, i can forward my CV to you if you want something to go by.. if it helps. :)
