We use those suctions cups at work too. They lift up fairly heavy floor tiles without hassle! Nice car aswell ;p

I think once the weather has improved and I've given my car a good clean I'm going to have a go at this.

one thing you've got to remember is that even though the suction cups are rated at 50kg and the camera is only a kg or so you dont only have 1kg of force on the pads. The poles weigh quite a bit and at a long length there is a serious amount of leverage going on.

Saying that the pads just didnt like my car, they stayed firm as anything on Wedge's car.

Gonna have a go of this. I bought the suction cups yesterday and a 32mm thick pole.

I couldn't find the curved metal bits that secure the pole to the cups. Can someone tell me what they are called or even link them.

Well I went out and had a go. My pole isn't long enough though so i'm going to either have to extend the pole or borrow a friends 10-22mm to get any usable images from the front of the car.

I forgot to take a photo of the rig with the camera attached. Basically it's this but i've screwed the head of my tripod into the end of the pole.
