Is this motherboard known to have EMI problems? I'm having massive feedback problems with my mic, and I've tried both a decent £30 mic and my webcam's built-in one (both of which worked spiffingly in my old rig), and everything I record sounds awful!

(This is on the on-board audio - I had to remove my Montego sound card when I found out the driver was causing my system to BSOD under specific circumstances.)

Onboard sounds is never good. You'll be wanting a decent card like the 1212m if you want good quality I'm afraid...

I'm running a DS3 with a 1212m and the sound is stunning. :)
 
I DID have a Turtle Beach Montego, but I had to temporarily remove it cause it makes Guild Wars BSOD (well, the C-Media driver, not the card itself)!:(
I've emailed Turtle Beach and ANet, hoping for a fix, I'm just making do with on-board sound until I get one. But the awful feedback on recorded sound shouldn't affect the webcam's built-in mic, cause that doesn't go through the on-board sound!
 
I tried onboard, and the output was poo... hence why I switched.

I haven't tried a MIC onboard tho, but I'd look into another (compatible) soundcard if I were you...

If you are getting feedback, lower the output volume of the mic, or mute it completely...
 
Build a system for my mate with that mobo. We had the same microphone and same settings on vent and he always seemed a bit weird on ventrilio most of the time. He was using the on-board sound solution so that might be the problem.
Some motherboards are better than others in this department but if you want good sound quality performance then you should consider a sound card.
 
I often spend more or just as much on a sound card as I do a gfx card personally, sound is really important and I only use onboard if I really really have to...

Sorry, I wasn't specific, the feedback is in the recording, not in my speakers! As in, playing back the recording sounds terrible due to background noise and crackling (whether I'm talking to someone online or recording something using sound recorder and playing it back myself). And before anyone asks, I did also try with my speakers disconnected and headphones on. Also with the mic further away from the PC in case it was the noise of the fans.
Output is fine too, not quite as good as the Montego was but decent. And the reason I'm asking about THE MOTHERBOARD rather than its on-board sound chipset is because I have EXACTLY the same problems when recording via my webcam's built-in mic as with a good quality mic plugged into the on-board sound - and the webcam's a separate device, it goes in via usb and bypasses the sound card except when I'm playing it back!
 
Can you get USB mics? It might be worth trying one of these...

Mic signals are very low level, so are affected by EMI much more line level signals.

You may also try putting the mic thru a pre-amp and use the line-in instead of mic-in...
