Im selling my good clocking athlon XP-m and bh-5 memory on ebay, and to maximize my return ive included worldwide shipping, and protected myself by stating PAYPAL only.

Ive been chatting with a potential buyer from canada who is very interested, and has just setup a paypal account specifically for my auction as he really wants the memory. He mentioned that it will take 5-6 days for the money to be verified and is unsure il still let him bid.

Can someone explain this verification malarky too me and why it could take 5-6 days, and how could i tell the funds are verified when recieved ???? He seems pretty genuine although he's only ever bought a few things off ebay (pc bits).

cheers, auction ends tomorrow, so a quick response would be much appreciated

It takes a while to sign up for Paypal sometimes. They have to verify your details. I think it's if you're using Paypal with just a bank account, rather than with a card.

I think its also if you add funds to your account rather than just adding a card.

So say if he needs to put £80 in his account he will have to wait 5 days for it to clear where as if he buys it with paypal choosing his bank card as the mothod of payment within paypal then it goes through straight away!

Might be wrong though.

cheers for that, he says that it would enable him to pay direct from his account which he likes. Mine is setup like that too, but i think he's worried about the payment time after the auction before he can get it through.

As long as it's safe i don't mind waiting.

PayPal can take a while to add cards/bank accounts to a users account as they charge a random amount to the card/account with a reference and then ask for the amount and reference - which can take a few days to show up on statments for the card/account.
