Won an auction on ebay and the item is fine but it was advertised with "the remainder of the manufacturers 3y warranty" and included a redacted image of the original invoice in the sale pictures, so I can't tell who bought it or from where.

The first question from the manufacturer, in the event of a warranty claim, is going to be asking for proof of purchase, which the seller has not supplied with the item.
I was expecting the invoice to arrive with the item but it didn't.

I contacted the seller, via ebay, to ask for a full copy of the original invoice, showing where it was bought from etc and the seller kept saying "leave me feedback and I'll send it".
I still haven't left feedback as I feel that is my only leverage over the seller and, at the moment, my feedback would be very negative anyway!

It is now radio silence from the seller.

I've tried to 'speak' with ebay but all I get is the automated chat bot which couldn't cope with the above query!

So, any suggestions as to how to proceed... how do I go about raising this issue with ebay?
 
Realise I'm only crying over spilt milk and all second hand items are always absolutely perfect but thanks for the helpful comments.

I've now requested a return and fully expect it to be ignored or rejected as the seller has ignored my ebay messages since early October, assuming I'll go away, I guess.

Thanks for the link, CircleFaust, I'll use that if/when the return is ignored/rejected.

It's just such a waste of my time... the item is fine the seller just needs to send me the invoice that he redacted in the listing in case I ever do need to contact the manufacturer.
He was way more concerned with getting feedback, at which point ebay would say "you've given +ve feedback, so you're happy, so end of case".

I've been using ebay since 1999 and have never had an issue before this month - and now 2 in a couple of weeks :(
 
If you don't have the information to take advantage of the remainder of the warranty then what you've been sold isn't as described.

I think that if you specifically mention that to the seller, then they're more likely to take notice.

And if they don't...

Do this.

As Feek says and I'll add even he provides a reciept now if a situation comes up where he may have to get involved to help with the RMA process given the way he's acted so far I would not trust him to either help or try something dodgy.
 
Bah! It gets worse.
Seller was able to just reject the return and the case is now closed and I don't see the "Ask eBay to step in and help" option anywhere :(

Update...
Googled the wording from ebay and found this...

which allowed me to request a call-back and actually speak to someone at ebay on the phone.
They are escalating it and giving the seller until 28/10 to sort the issue out else they will step in.

You opened a "returns" case rather than a "not as described" case didn't you?

you have to raise a dispute "not as described"
Already said in the first reply it has to be "not as described" lol. Hope eBay sorts it out for you :)

Final update from me... I didn't hear anything from ebay in the 5-day "seller's final chance" window so called them again today and actually found out what happened.

The "doesn't match description" return was able to be closed/rejected immediately because, by then, I was already out of the 30-day ebay guarantee window - the numpty I spoke to last week could have told me that!

My mistake was wasting over 2 weeks with back-and-forth 'chats' with the seller and then being away for a fortnight which meant that it was over 30 days since purchase when I raised the return :(

Next time, one message to the seller and then straight to ebay!

i still don't understand why the muppet seller wouldn't supply the paperwork he had a photo of in the listing.
He has just ended up with his first -ve feedback instead of sending me a scan of the invoice.
Hope he's happy.
 
True but that would just give me a bucketful of grief between myself and ebay.
Not worth it.
As I've always said, the item is A-OK but has another 18months of warranty that I will never have the paperwork to use... got to hope it stays the distance :)
