I have Q6600 G0
Asus PK5-E
2*1GB Crucial Ballistix PC PC2-5300

Armed with the necessary guides and tools I thought I'd make a start!!

Before making any changes, I thought I would memtest and Orthos just to see if they threw anything up before I started.. Which they did!

MemTest throws errors up with both sticks are installed  single sticks in each of the slots are ok and no errors are reported, but two sticks do

Orthos after about 30 secs gives this error :

FATAL ERROR: Rounding was 0.5, expected less than 0.4

I do get the odd windows error, but put that down to vista!

Before I start tweaking, does it look like Ive got dodgy ram etc? (if so how do i find which one if memtest passes individually?!)

Thanks :)

Have you got the correct voltage going through the ram in the bios? What are the timings like? It could be that it needs another +0.1v to make it stable.

At the moment, I have the bios set to "standard", so everything is showing as auto. CPU z is reporting 5- 3 -3 -15 -20
Frequency 333.4
FSB: DRAM 4:5
Voltage 1.8V

Core Voltage 1.144v (although this varies in CPU z)

When say increase by 0.1v is this the DRAM Voltage?

Voltage for the CPU is reading rather low too. I think stock is supposed to be 1.25V. I would set this manually in the BIOS and then see what CPU-Z reads upon booting as you may be experiencing quite a bit of Vdroop (Voltage supplied to the CPU being lower than that specified in the BIOS).

But yes I would also up the voltage of the DIMMS to between 2 and 2.2. Looking at overclockers main site, it says that they're supposed to be set at 2.2V.

The orthos error is more normally caused by not enough vcore from my experience...

Don't use CPU-Z to read the vcore as its incorrect - either use diagnostics that came with the motherboard or everest.

Thanks all

I have now set my DRAM to 2.2
VCore to 1.25

and the errors have disappeared :) Off to the overclocking guide ;)

When looking at the comments on the ram page, people have overclocked the ram.. will the come about whilst following the guide or is that the next level?!! :)

Best to keep the RAM close to stock speeds. Overclock the CPU, and then start on the RAM. Means that the CPU overclock is not affected by the ram and vice versa. It keeps it simple and thats the best way.
