another fractal xl broken

FD did have previous issues with packaging, the foam densitity was not correct for the size/weight of the case and as a result any medium shock impact to the case could have caused damage. FD have changed and improved upon the packaging now.

Have you ever had a highish end Lian Li, Corsair or Silverstone to compare it to though?

A lot of people used to say the same about Thermaltake until they had actually used something better.

so true, i used to have a thermaltake before my lian li, it was good at the time, but the random plastic mixed in soon snapped at the first chance. my lian li is now 7 years old, still same as the day i opened it.

i kept the case because i didn't see the point in sending it back, and the fact i couldn't be bothered but mainly because a few bits of glue here and there and it was fine, no visual effects on the case and the plastic is just as strong with the glue i used as it would be new. so all in all there wasn't any point when i could just save time and it looks the same, plus there isn't any massive glue sploges anywhere because im careful like that lol.

Are units with the old packaging still being sent out by OcUK, or have they all gone now? Noticed a few people with these problems quite recently, not sure if they were from OcUK or not though.

Mine was from OcUK,(about 6 weeks ago) dented rear panel at the bottom, top rivet not all the way home, upon further inspection now as I have taken the rear apart, the mid panel is also bent and damaged at the rear, all being fixed though and I new I would be modding this case slightly so that's why I kept it and decided it is easy enough to fix at home.

Okay just to chime on this thread.... Got my case today (yesterday now) I purchased the Fractal Design Define XL Full Tower Case - Titanium Grey

Okay read some horror stories about this case coming damaged... well I inspected the case and it seemed fine, so started taking apart my old case and moving parts over to the new case, finished building the pc (apart from the power cable to the 8pin needs an extention cable grrrr, will order that today..)..anyway chuffed with my build thought time to install my lovely new fans, didn't want to use the stock ones so purchased 4 BeQuiet SilentWing USC 140mm Fan and 1 BeQuiet SilentWing USC 120mm Fan.. kept the 180mm stock fan because BeQuiet don't do 180mm fans grrr... anyway installed the fan on the case panel and one at the back of the case, then started doing the front of the case and installed the 120mm then moved down to the 2 140mm fan module at the front.... to install the fans ... AND HERE the fun begins.. the fan module release catch at the bottom (plastic and there is 2 of them) was broken at one end.. thought okay not too bad I guess so got the super glue out and then realised well it couldnt have broken in transport and got round to moving it back in place to glue it and realised the whole plastic catch was warped and looked like it's some sort of manufacturing fault not a break from being knocked... tried to glue it but the piece was bigger then the break area so only way to glue it back was to take some of the plastic off to get them to join together for gluing... glued it and thought great seems ok now...... hummm.. tried to refit the fan holder back in place only to find that catch could never hold the fan module in place, but the one at top was working okay... and half held the fan module.. Now i'm left with a fan module hanging at the bottom and not secure.....

OC anyway of getting a new 140mm front fan module to replace this one, I purchased this case on the 11th July 2011 and dont want to have to RMA the whole case with my system all built...

I did message Fractal support but no reply from them.. So very cheesed off at the moment and regreting even building the system without making sure the fan holders were ok...

Any help OC UK will be great thank you... and as always great service in sending out the goods and came on time.. BTW the packaging is perfect so was never knocked the case, just looks like bad Quality Control to me or was broken while they were putting the case together or the module was faulty to start with.

BTW all wondering if the case is nice, yes it is a great case with lots of room to do what you want, I will take some pics and post here once im done to show you all what a built system looks like inside it. Ohh yes there is no HDD activity LED and no system speaker.... I have a system speaker from the old case and will use the power LED as the HDD activity LED.. It's kind of obvious when it's on so don't need the power LED ... but damn would have been nice to have a HDD LED... never seen a case ever without one ....

Just to update, I have been in contact with Fractal Design and seems they are willing to send me the Define XL Titanium Grey case 140mm front fan module to replace the broken one that came with the case. So far their support seems great, will update when I get the replacement part.

well received my xl today, all packaging was standard, not best but good. but when i took the case out to my surprise all of the plastic clips that keep the front panel in place had snapped off!! no worry's though i went up b&q and bought some superglue for plastics and its fine now but the point is is that its not nice opening your new case to find the front panel hanging off :D

powelly2010 contact Support at Fractal Design on the following email address they will send you out a new front panel, you should not have to live with a broken product that was sent to you. I have contacted them regarding a new Fan Module that came broken too and they have said they will send me the part. They should be able to send you a new front panel too.
