So Im deciding which GPU to buy, I have selected 7950s and 670s

Now the above cards come with 1.5 to 2.0 gb of memory, I see there are options where you pay slightly a bit more and you can double the memory on the cards, so from 2gb of memory to 4gb and so on.

Would it be worth adding the extra 50/70 pounds to double the memory?

Will I notice a difference? is there any point of getting the 4gb versions, or hs anyone upgraded to 4gb cards and noticed a difference?

Cheers overclockers for the help and advice.

Neither of those cards have 1.5Gb of memory, the 7950 comes with 3Gb as standard and the 670 with 2Gb (with 4Gb options). At 1080p, 2Gb is more than enough so there is no point paying extra for the 4Gb version. The difference in memory size between the 7950 and 670 isn't of any consideration as it makes no difference at 1080p. Only time it would make a difference is if you are running 3 cards in SLI/CFX with very high resolutions. Compare them based on benchmark results along with the price. Based on these, the 7950 is better value (although the non reference models have gone up in price now, but if they go back to £240 for the TF3 etc, I'd go for that).

Ok I have identifed a good deal,

VTX3D HD 7970 X-Edition 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card at £299.00

thats the cheapest 7970 and its got dual fans, with 3gb memory

So 2 of these will be 600 and its the top AMD card

What do you think? value and build?

But one thing that concerns me is:
I have the Gigabyte UD7 mobo on 1366 platform, I think the PCI e slots are 2.1

But all of the new cards state they are PCI e 3.0, So will I be able to use the above cards on my motherboard, its 2 years old but was one of the best boards at the time, it cost me £280 I know its not pci e 3.0 so concerned if the new cards will work, and if they do, will I get the full peformance? or wuold it be reduced due to my old mobo?

oh, i have a single screen set up, i have a dell u27 inch on 2560x1440

I had the idea of running duel set up = better graphics, im just so use to my 5970 xfire
set up, but thses new cards are capable on just 1 card?

Ps the vtx3d card is good yes?

To be fair, i'd probably just buy one then see what you think, if you need another buy another. :)
